Which is more common to take in the fall? And which ENGR class is most popular? Does this choice have a big effect on your major, or should I just pick the one that's most major related? I just don't want to end up in like the only really hard class and get screwed my first semester.

"Comm" is Communications. "CS" is Computer Science, although the department is technically named Com S. I'm a CS major so... I took both an Engri and CS100 first semester, but I also had a ****load of AP credit so my schedule was different from most people's.

I picked Nanotechnology, it was completely unrelated to my major and everybody else was going to major in that area, so they already knew everything. That course was interesting, but more difficult than most Engris.

This might help. It shows enrollment and median grade:

is the Comp Sci Intro class hard. I have no background in comp sci. how do you think i will handle that class? also, is it better to take it first or second semester?

what language do you learn? is it mostly java?

You'll learn at least some Java in CS100. CS100M is half Matlab/half Java, CS100J is almost all Java with 2 weeks of Matlab, and CS100H is all Java (honors).

I took CS100H (Honors) and I thought it was easy, but I've been doing this for a long time. Some people really struggle with the non-honors version of the course.

hmm whats the point of taking the honors version? does it look better or osmething?

Is CS 100H now called CS 100R? The info packet never mentioned 100H but said 100R is a "fast-paced introduction to CS" meant for kids who had already taken at least a high-school level Java course. Thats what I'm gonna try to take since I got a 4 on Comp Sci A (back in 10th grade before I started caring haha).

Does learning C++ help you on java?

They might have changed the name. It was a new course when I took it. I took it because I would have been bored to death in CS100J. I got an easy A in honors, but it's definitely not for everybody. If you feel up to the challenge, Professor Bailey is AMAZING. He's very entertaining and brilliant.

Bibsburg- yes.

I can't tell you anything about the honors class, other than the professor did a little advertisement in my class...and he seemed like a really funny and enthusiastic teacher.

I took 100M. I didn't think it was bad at all. I had never done any coding prior to the course, and had never even heard of MATLAB and managed to get an A.

The hardest part for me was at the very beginning of each language, just learning the basic syntax. After that, it's not bad. The biggest challenge is analyzing the questions they ask you, and making your program do waht its supposed to do. Some of the quetions were kind of tricky, but I still did very well without any prior programming expoerience.

I do know a few people that stuggled. I also hear that J is harder than M.

stplayer, who is the best professor for 100m?
