The general wisdom with recommendations is, it doesn't matter who writes it (that is, the prestige of the person writing it); what matters is the degree to which the person knows you, and your work, and the degree to which the person can write a warm and persuasive recommendation.

I was wondering, however, about intra-school recommenders. At my school, I took a non-law course with a professor who also teaches at my school's law school. Would this in any way alter the general wisdom, when I apply to my school's law program? (Would his prestige within the law school impress the admission officers?) I ask because we have a nice rapport, but there are professors who know me better.

I hope I expressed things well enough; if not, I can clarify.
