So I'm sure I'm not the only one that is interested in Intramural sports, namely basketball. Are there any upperclassmen or any who know or have experience with intramural sports/basketball? How does it work? When is it and for how long? I am aware it isn't free, probably in the range of $110 or so. For basketball, after we pay are we provided pinnies/jerseys? Anymore info would be great - competitiveness, games, practices, overall experiences, etc.

There’s 2 seasons - fall semester, there’s 3 on 3 (halfcourt), and at the beginning of winter semester, there’s fullcourt 5 on 5. I think typically there’s 3 regular season games, and then single elimination playoffs. Everyone qualifies for the playoffs, so you’ll play at least 4 games.

You’ll form a team. If you don’t know anyone else who wants to play, there’s ways to sign up on other teams that need people. There’s a ton of divisions, some of which are co-ed. IME, even the lowest level non co-ed division is very competitive.

It should be around $110 or whatever per team, so you individually should never be paying more than about $20. You get really ****ty jersey for duration of the game. The 3v3 is not reffed, but 5v5 is reffed. Practice is up to you and your team. I suspect most teams don’t really “practice,” but they know each other from pick up games and the like.

Any other questions?

I think you’ve answered my immediate questions…I thought it was $110 per person at first, $20 per person sounds great. 4 games feel way too little :(

So doing i.m. bball and working 10-15 hrs/wk should be quite doable, right? I’d like to play ball also, but don’t want to way overdo myself time-wise.

IM basketball doesn’t really require a big time commitment - you’ll be playing an average of 4.8 games or whatever the ev comes out to. In the fall the games take about a half hour, so factoring in how much time it takes to get there and such you’ll be wasting about an hour per game, so 5 hours of your semester.

So no, you’re not overdoing anything. IM is a very limited thing - don’t imagine that this is the NBA or college basketball or something and that you’ll be playing >30 games. That said, the times for the games vary a lot, so you may need to clear it with work.
