What's the difference?

intramural is like sports but for people who aren't extremely good at sports and don't go into division 1 division 2 division 3 sports

i guess division 1 is the best and division 3 is the worst.

a club is just an e.c. where you don't do sports i guess like debate club, book club, stuff liket hat

MMOOD.. you've got to be kidding.
first of all all div 1 are not better than div 2 or div 3. These sports are governed by NCAA rules. The amount of scholarship and money given is different for each sport, and each division. Each athlete would pick a school based on fit, and level of play.

Intramurals are a sport played by a group of friends at school. They get together and play other teams composed of kids from the same school. It may be competitive or fun. (many times a dorm floor will get together to form a team.)

A club team is formed by a school to play other schools. Most of the time it is not as competitve as div 1 or 3, but not always. For a club sport at a school you would not be recruited. You would try out when you get to school. Many schools offer club teams for sports that they do not offer in d1 or d3, for example they may have a womens lacrosse club team, while other sports are d3.

hope this clears it up.

intramurals are just when you like, get you + X number of friends to make a team and play. Skills range from "never before played that sport" to former HS varsity players.

Club teams compete against other schools. They usually have open tryouts, and practice a few times a week. If you played a varsity sport in HS you probably have a good chance at playing Club for the school. Also, in some sports, the highlest level the school has is Club, like at my school examples would be cycling and crew, where there is no varsity team.

gimme examples of division 1 2 and 3

division 1 = all the big college teams and big names you see on tv (i.e. duke, usc, michigan, texas, UNC... but also many others that you may not have heard of)
division 2/3 = official college teams but usually not on tv cuz they're either smaller or not as good as division 1

club = think of it like a "JV" college team; it competes against other schools
intramural = think of it like pickup basketball with an organized schedule; competes only against other students from the same school

Intramural sports at a large university can get ridiculous - if they allow grad students to compete you occasionally get former D1 college athletes or even pro washouts going back to Bschool for their MBA. Also, do they let the varsity football players compete in the intramural bball league?

thanks for the clarifications peeps :p

"Also, do they let the varsity football players compete in the intramural bball league?"

not sure, but even if they did, i doubt any varsity football players would. they still have a full load schedule of classes AND practice, even when they're in offseason. intramurals are more like the "civilian" sports teams, for the guys who arent on the school's teams but would just like to continue playing their sport at a somewhat competitive level with officiating and stuff.

Club sports are a good outlet for the athlete who does not want to commit to the 'varsity' level - and are not recruited athletes - but want to stay involved in a sport that they enjoy. They compete with other colleges - and some club sports actually have regional and national competitions and even national championships also - examples - flag football - skiing - snowboarding - roller hockey, etc........ Some club sports are very competitive. Some club sports are school sponsored to a degree and some are student sponsored - depends on the school.
