I really, really, really wanted to take summer courses on-campus but my family can't afford it and the program doesn't provide any financial aid. Shoal's awards both merit and need-based aid, though, so I'm considering taking introductory biology over the summer. What do you guys think? If I score a 4 or a 5 on the AP Bio exam then I'll enter my freshman year with 8 credits of bio already under my belt.

nay.........

How come? Have you been before?

First, I'm not sure whether they will give you the credits for it. They will allow you to move on to the next level of bio...It's simply marked as fulfilled req.

Second, Cornell doesn't seem to value summer courses, since I read on a lot fo their things, "we do not accept transfer summer credits" and such

imo, though. But heck, if it's free y not, if u really want to.

Another thing w/e u want to do, a summer bio course will not be comparable to the real bio course u will take at cornell, thus u may be underprepared.

I fail to see how you can take intro bio and still receive AP credit for it.

i think he's taking intro bio at the summer thing and he did the ap at high school. so he's saying that he'll have 8 credits (2 semesters of bio)

But a 5 on Bio AP gets you 8 credits of intro bio and placement out of all intro bio courses, and a 4 on Bio AP gets you 4 credits.

The e-mail said that if I scored a 4 or a 5 on the AP and did intro Bio at SMH then I'd end up with two fulfilled semesters of biology (eight credits.)

Are you saying I wouldn't have to even visit the island (just score a 5 on the exam) to get eight credits?

yeah that's what I meant. "5 on AP = up to 8 credits Placement out of all Introductory Biology (Bio G) courses" http://www.biology.cornell.edu/advising/ap.html

So what's up with the e-mail? It specifically states that managing a 4 or 5 on the AP - along with attending the summer courses - would net me 8 credits / 2 semesters of bio.
