Hello cc community! I was hoping someone could help clarify some things about the intro calc sequences for math majors, specifically the honors math concentration. So, from what I've seen the 156-256 sequence is for science and eng majors, so could anyone explain the difference between the 185-286 sequence and the 295-396 sequence? What exactly does the 295-396 sequence cover? Do you miss any topics (like diffy-q) by taking this sequence and which sequence would you recommend for an honors math major? Any advice or insight would be appreciated! Especially from umich math majors!

the x5x sequence is geared towards engineering, so it’s more computational. the x8x sequence is a bit more theoretical. the x9x sequence is substantially more difficult, and is primarily only taken by honors math students. x9x will emphasize rigorous proofs much more. the x9x sequence doesn’t really cover diff eq since diff eq is largely used in applied math rather than pure math. if you want to do honors math, start out with 295 and drop down to 185 if you find 295 too difficult.
