How big or Intro Science classes, Biololgy and Chemistry, at Wellesley? How competitive is the atmosphere for premed students?

My intro bio and chem classes were each between 30 and 40 students, with much smaller lab sections. I think they've restructured the course offerings since then, but the classes certainly aren't huge.

Premed can be stressful, but not because you're competing with other students. You're competing against admissions standards. There's no cap to the number of students at the school who can identify premed, but there is quite a bit of advising done to make sure these students have a good shot at successful med school admissions.

my intro bio class currently has ~30 students.
my lab has ~16 kids.

cornell's intro chem class has ~900 students - according to my friend at cornell.

i love small classes.
my required writing class has 12 people. isn't that lovely?

My intro to chem class has about only 20 students in lecture and a disporportional 14 lab and a 6 person lab. It's probably because intensive chem requires a placement test. I love the professor, she was a wellesley grad and went to MIT for chemistry.

I'm also premed, and compared to high school I felt that there was more tension. Mostly because students here care about grades alot more that those in high school. Nobody asks around for scores or anything like that.

My Intro to Cellular Biology class has about 30 people. The Lab has about 16 people. I'd say premed students are all really competitive. Wellesley has a pretty high admission rate into med schools. I agree with Demosthenic though. There's not any more tension than there was in high school.

Small classes are great. I'm learning so much more than I did in high school. The professors are amazing, they know your name (in college, how amazing is that?), and some even hold their own study sessions to help review you for your exams.
