As a dual enrolled student, I have to register for fall semester classes next week. I am wondering if BIO 110 (Principles of Biology) + BIO 111 (General Biology I) would cover everything you would learn in AP Bio? I am wondering if I should just take AP Bio (which I don’t want to do because that means I would either have to take it online or go to my regular high school everyday just for that one period, which may conflict w/ my college schedule) or take these two classes because I want to take the AP Bio test.
I’m going to have to go on a limb and say no to this.
My mother took a General Bio class at a local CC and did not learn about 60% of the stuff we’re doing in AP Bio (Hardy-Weinberg, Chi-Square, Cell Communication, etc.)
It all really depends on the community college you’re taking it through. Also, did you double-check with the colleges you want to apply to, to see if they accept dual enrollment credits?
To cover yourself, take those 2 classes and read the AP Biology textbook (Campbell’s 10th Edition is the newest.) I would also recommend you get a prep book just to review what has possibly not been covered by those college classes before you take the AP exam.
It would be an excellent idea for you to take the classes AND the AP exam just to make sure you’re covered in regards to credit. Again, just make sure you fill in those missing concepts and learn them before you take the exam.
Good luck
Thank you @FutureDoctor2028 ! I really wanna go to Princeton and they don’t accept these credits but my chances of getting are pretty slim with a 7.4% acceptance rate ya know so why not take the classes? All the UNC schools made an agreement to accept these credits (I live in NC) so UNC (Chapel Hill) is my Plan B.
Ok, great! Yeah, it would be really beneficial for you to take the classes if most of the schools on your list (besides Princeton) accept CC credits. Like I said, take the AP exam to get dual coverage for UNC and Princeton.
I just looked up the credit policy for Princeton, and the minimum grade they want for Bio is a 5, lol. They only give 2 credits for AP Bio, but that’s understandable I suppose. So work your butt off studying for it from now until next May; I suggest getting prep books and Campbell’s 10th ASAP, and even start familiarizing yourself with the material over the summer.
For UNC Chapel Hill, the minimum score you can get is a 3 (for 4 credits) but if you get a 5, you will get 8 credits!
Just in case you want to check out Princeton’s policy:
And UNC’s:
You will do just fine!
