Anyone know the real difference between these classes?

"Introduction to Comparative Politics (3) Sodaro
Concepts and principles of comparative analysis, with an examination of politics and government in selected countries."

and

"Introduction to International Politics (3) Goldgeier, Nau, Lebovic
Analysis of world politics, focusing on the role of nation-states and international organizations and on selected foreign policy issues."

seem like exactly the same thing... except for maybe different profs. Anybody have any info or suggestions on which to take?

My guess is that Comparative Politics is about specific countries and comparing the governments of these countries, whereas international politics focuses on the way global politics works. Less focus on specific countries and more of a focus on how this new global village functions. You'll probably explore topics like globalization, democranization, etc.

Also in my opinion "Introduction to International Politics (3) Goldgeier, Nau, Lebovic is a more interesting class, but I know nothing about this class at GW.

If you're a poli sci major or wanting to transfer into the Elliott School, both classes are required. If you were accepted into the Elliott School, you must take IAFF 005 in lieu of PSC 003.

I just took PSC 003 Intl Politics with Professor Rector spring semester. I really liked this class. I'm not a poli sci major or anything in that area.. but I decided to take the class because it sounded interesting. It was one of my favorite classes and I learned alot. Professor Rector is really good too! Check out Rector's personal webpage for more information on the course. (I don't know how the other professors who teach this class are or what their curriculum is). Good luck.

I plan on double majoring in IA with PoliComm. I know it's ambitious, and I shouldn't rush into it, but there's no reason not to be prepared. Does that mean taking PSC 003 would be sort of worthless because I should be taking IAFF 005?

Either class isn't worthless. It's basically the same material. IAFF 005 is 4 credits because there is more work involved than PSC 003. For freshmen, it involves advising work.
