I'm planning on being an Econ major and I got a 5 on the Micro AP exam. Should I still take Micro at Cornell or just skip the Intro class and go straight to the Intermediate Micro class?

I guess that depends upon how good you really are at Micro. Getting a 5 on the Micro exam doesn't mean much, considering the exam is very easy and only requires a basic understanding of the concepts.

I think that if you're not sure, take ECON 101 and 102 again, especially if you get a good professor (Abowd is good for 101, and Wissink is best for 102). Many of my Econ major friends did this and were happy with their choice. One of my friends skipped right into ECON 313 and did just fine (A+), but he's also a genius and has a 4.2+ overall.

I was thinking of taking Macro first semester (with McClelland, anyone know how he/she is as a teacher?) and seeing how hard that was. If I found it challenging then I'd take Micro again, if it was easy I'd go on ahead with the intermediates. Any other advice?

take it again in cornell---itll raise your gpa. and take it with wissink

Yes, wissink is good times, got me a nice fat A spring of freshman year.... :)

what teachers would be recommended for econs 313 or 314? how are the classes like?

For 313, Wissink is the best hands down. The others I can't say much about, except that they're foreign.

Consider taking Econ 301, 302, which is also "intro" but at a more advanced level (uses calculus I believe).

Econ 101 is cake. Took it just as a liberal studies credit and got an A+, with Schuler. He was pretty good overall.

are econ 301 & 302 difficult, or are they just a tad bit more difficult than 101 and 102

101 and 102 seem like a big waste of time to me. Take them if you want some easy grades. For 313, definitely take it with Wissink if you can. For 314, Barshegyan is pretty good.

why not just do econ 301 & 302 and in one shot clear out both 101-102 and 313-314

Ah, well sounds like some people are saying the intro econ classes are pretty easy, so I'm thinking I'll probably just review a little bit of Micro and skip the Intro class. Thanks for the insight.
