Intro to Engineering (ENG 1002)

Im decided to take this class for the fall (as it was recommended and its only 1 credit)

But I found im meeting for 3 hours a week (non-stop on the same day on top of that)?

Can someone elaborate?

I don’t go to UF but that’s common in courses that I’ve seen. I’ve taken 2 four hour computer courses that meet 6 hours a week (2 hours are considered lab).

I’m guessing that 2 hours of that course are considered “lab”.

D’s taking that class in the fall. She was told that it’s an overview of all the departments. Each week they “intro” each engineering discipline. She’s looking forward to it, as she continues to fluctuate about which engineering major. When we went to the engineering seminar during orientation, we were also told it’s one of the easiest engineering grades you’ll ever earn. BUT … attendance is required, so don’t plan on skipping out. It’s this class that makes my D’s Thursday crazy, but she’ll live. She thinks it’s weird that it’s scheduled to meet in Reitz.

Im taking it at the reitz too.

Periods 8-10 (3-6:15 PM) on Thursday Room 210.

So im assuming It wont kill me? Ha ha

thanks

gpowsang

I never took the class, but I know a lot of people that have. Every week you will go to a different engineering department, where they will give you a presentation or make you do a little project to introduce you to specific major.

Yeah, gpowsang,

I think she and her roommate have the same time as you, but they noticed they’re in different sections. So, they must do something w/ the larger group then rotate the sections through the different departments.

So just to clarify, ENG 1002 is just a big general introduction to the college of engineering while something like EML 2920 is a major-specific introduction?

Initially, you meet on the first day and the director of the course gives an overview of the course. For the rest of the class you will go to different locations on campus and get a short introduction to that engineering major. Usually you’re only there for an 1 or 2.

Thanks, ASMAJ, I’ll pass it along to D. Maybe her Thursdays won’t be as crazy as she thought. :)

hey anyone sign up for this class summer B? (theres 2 choices, in weil or at turl., i chose weil)

do you think this class is not a time burden to add to already 6 credits?

(i took introduction to engineering at another university and it certainly was (4 papers, and major project, major presentation)…but i found it to be incredibly useful and one the most meaningful classes)

That class wouldn’t make ur schedule imposible, but y not just take it during a regular semester where bright futures would cover it?

Not a burden. You show up = A in the class.

Signed up to take in summer, section 4369
