<p>We’re going through the class schedules on Bama Bound and found only three sections for this class, all at the same time, but at three different dates. </p>
<p>I’m confused.</p>
<p>Is it an approximate six week class, and the three sections just start and end at different times?</p>
<p>Has anybody registered for this course yet at Bama Bound?</p>
<p>We’re going May 31-June 2, so hope to hear back from someone who went to the one day session or just finishing the May 27 session.</p>
<p>I think this is a new course, part of the new engineering curriculum, so hope to hear from some new registers.</p>
<p>Yeah, looks like this is a 1 hour course that meets three hours a week but for only 1/3 of the semester (approx 5 weeks), so “the hours math” works out.</p>
<p>Is it like that for all the intro to engineering courses? I was wondering if it was done that way so a student can take an intro course for a different engineering discipline, at another five week period. I presume that would add another credit. I wonder how finals will be handled for this class. Probably the same as we did senior year. Kids took their final during regular class time, while still taking their other courses. Not fun.</p>

I think it’s being done so the same prof can teach all the sections. I don’t think it’s being done so kids can take more than one.</p>
<p>I don’t know how finals will be done. There may not even be a final exam. It may just be a final project. Not all classes give finals. Frankly, it’s a relief to get a final out of the way early.</p>
<p>I wouldn’t think they would want kids to sign up for the courses that aren’t for their specialty because they probably have appropriated enough seats for the students who have specified that area of engineering.</p>
<p>MyBama is down for that right now so not exactly sure, from his original schedule notes here I see his 1st semester one credit courses - ENGR111, ENGR131, CS121, OA, and an honors freshman thingy.</p>
<p>Leaves two for Spring, ENGR141; and ENGR151 (1 cr.) OR ART131 (3 cr.) (they choose between the two)</p>
<p>It is required for the CS major, not sure about other Engineering but I assume so, like I said either that or the 1 credit option.
It is also required for the Studio Art Major/Minor, so DS is killing two birds with one stone on that. Is in the FA category, but if you take it as part of the Eng curriculum don’t think it can ALSO fulfill a FA requirement.</p>
<p>Was wondering if kids took multiple intro courses if they were undecided engineering. Son was initially undecided engineering, but then decided on mech eng. </p>
<p>The problem we’re having with the schedule is the conflict pretzeldude talked about, the discussion sections for calc and chem being at the same time, Tuesday evening. The intro to mech eng course conflicts with the lecture for a chem section, but still have the problem with the two Tuesday night sessions. So even going with the eight am chem lecture does not solve the problem. May just have to put off chem until another semester or during the summer. Hoping it’s not a prereq for anything in the spring.</p>
<p>The way it was described to us, the five 1-credit courses are there to expose all engineering majors to all aspects of engineering so that they are better able to choose what to specialize in, and are also working with the same basic knowledge when going on to the next level.</p>
<p>I actually took that lovely ART 131 course, if anyone wants to know about it. But it does not count as an FA for me, since i used it to avoid taking the dull engineering graphics course. Then i ended up taking autocad anyways. Oh well.</p>

Providing an overview to the engineering profession, it focuses on the challenges facing society (environmental, energy, medical, computational, etc.) and the role that engineering will play in addressing these challenges.*</p>
<p>The above class gives info about the various areas of engineering - which would be good for the undecided. I wonder if an undecided person just will wait until spring to take the discipline specific 121 course. I don’t think you have to take that 121 course in the fall.</p>
<p>I see that only ART 251 has the FA designation. The other classes that have the FA designation are Art history classes, frosh seminar classes, or UHP classes.</p>
