Introduction to Engineering Courses

I'm using AP credit to fullfil my introductory computer science requirement, so I'll be taking my introduction to engineering class first semester.

There are a few classes that I'm considering, and I was wondering if anyone here might have some input.

The first is ENGRI 1280: Security, Privacy, and Information Network Design: Wiretaps to Facebook. This one sounds the most interesting to me, since the description says you touch upon things like cryptography and cyber-security. Also, computer science is the major I tentatively put down on my application.

Then there was potentially ENGRI 1210: Modern Computing Devices: Smart Phones to Supercomputers, which also sounds pretty cool, but a bit less interesting to me than 1280 (at least from the description).

Finally, I am thinking about taking ENGRI 1101: Engineering Applications of Operations Research. When I heard about ORIE at an engineering tour I took last summer before applying to Cornell, I was intrigued by the major, and I still am. However, I don't know enough about it. If I do take this as my intro to engineering course, I'm afraid that I might find the class boring. Then again, if I enjoy it, I might want to consider this major.

Any advice/experience with these classes? Thanks!

Bump… I’m in the exact situation as the op, any advice/experiences?

^ Cool (well, uncool that we’re having so much trouble)! Are you interested in some of the same classes? Or just confused as to which one to take in general?

It’s really simple, honestly. Take whatever interests you the most. If you’re not sure, just sign up for one - you can easily switch during fall.

If you’re worried about the prof, see ratemyprofessors.com or previous course evals:

wow that link is extremely helpful thanks!

honestly, just wait to the second semester and take enri: 1270 Intro to entrepreneurship and engineering enterprises

It’s the easiest engineering course you will ever take. much worth the wait.
