Hey, I'm a high school senior looking into being an investment banker. I want to do some research on my own, like see what investment banking really is. I also have never taken a finance class at my school, since it's not offered, although I will be taking macroeconomics this semester. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on what books I could get to start myself off, something that will suit a beginner but also provides a lot of insight. I want to learn more about finance and what it takes to be successful in NY.

the vault guide to IB, check to see if your school has online access to it. If not you can buy it its 20 something i think

Monkey Business by Peter Troob and some other guy. It's an awesome (exaggerated) look into the business explained in simple terms. Quick read.

The best book that I've read and would strongly recommend to you is The Fast Track: The Insider's Guide to Winning Jobs in Management Consulting, Investment Banking, and Securities Trading , by Mariam Naficy.

You can't go wrong with this book. It'll tell you everything that you need to know. Enough said.

redlinekid, just so we know the source, in what industry are you currently employed?

I am not working in any industry at this time. I am simply a college student finishing my last math class(Calculus I) at Miami Dade College. After that, I am off to Boston to take a few classes at the Harvard Extension School.

Thus, for the time being, I am taking it one semester at a time.

Both Monkey Business and The Fast Track: The Insider's Guide to Winning Jobs in Management Consulting, Investment Banking, and Securities Trading are good books that you should read if you are interested in the industry. Also, I would amazon the fast track and just see what related books there are, because there are a lot.

cool, thanks for all the suggestions guys

vault guide to ib

how do you know that you want to be an investment banker without even knowing what an investment banker is? maybe you should learn what it is you want to be, before you decide that you want to be it. I assure you that you do not have what it takes to work anywhere near wall street, probably because you cant tolerate being around *******s much like myself all the time or probably because you just arent sharp enough.

I will be an investment banker, a financier, a wall street player so i guess that means i will be competing with meager proles such as yourself. there are only so many spots in this industry... i doubt there will be one for you. you should probably look into becoming a janitor.

wow, it seems like you have something stuck in the hole near that cameltoe of yours...I said I was "looking into" being an investment banker, smartass. That's why I'm asking for good books to read up on it.

If there really are people like you on Wall Street, maybe I wouldn't feel sorry beating y'all's asses out.
