Investment Banking from a non-target school

Hey all:

I'm currently a freshman at Miami University double majoring in finance and accounting. My dream is to work in a bulge bracket investment bank someday. Miami is not a target right now, however, I am in our investment banking group and we are sending guys to GS, MS, and Credit Suisse this year.

I have a 3.5 after first semester cumulatively, and a 4.0 for my business GPA: does anyone with any experience or knowledge here know what the best thing for a student such as myself to do? Will anything above a 3.5 from a non-target cut it? Is networking with alumni and other students going to be my only way in?

Thanks for any time or help you can offer.

My advice

Keep your GPA above 3.5 (3.8ish if you can)

No about IB Corporate Finance specific skills before you apply i.e. know how to do a DCF, Comps, etc. valuations and know how to do them in excel.

Join 1 club and work your way up to an executive position in that club. Preferably one related to finance, i.e. School Investment Fund or something of that nature

Get some damn work experience. You need to have 2 internships on your resume prior to your IB-Junior internship. I suggesting either working in some back office type job at an investment bank or doing some finance/accounting internships at big 4/consulting firms. I know Deloitte, E&Y, etc. hire sophmores

NETWORK.
