Hi, I am curently a high school senior and I am interested in finance and would like to pursue a job in ib. I have narrowed down my college choices to either Marquette University or UW - Milwaukee. What is your insight on either of these schools for ib or if I should venture outward towards a different university.
How are your grades? Have you taken the SATs yet? If you are interested in IB I would aim as high as your stats allow.
I am nearing the end of high school and I curently have a 3.6 gpa and a 23 ACT score
Marquette and UW-Milwaukee aren’t target schools for the bulge bracket banks. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to get a job at one but recruiting opportunities will be limited at best. I would try to familiarize yourself with the boutique firms in the Chicago area - those might be your best bet as a student from the Midwest. Good luck!
Go to the best-ranked college you can afford. One thing is for sure: you will have to kick up your performance quite a bit in college. It’s difficult enough to land a good banking gig from an ivy so you can imagine it’s going to be significantly harder coming from a non-targeted school w/o many alumni to help you out. So definitely keep your career options open.
