Investment Banking

alright, i was planning on pursuing a path in pre-dental, but its not my ideal dream job. it might sound funny to some people, but i just want to work in an office on my computer, (long hours doesnt bug me). thats why when i stumbled over a thread about Investment Banking, it intrigued me.

what would a person need to do in college in order to become a First Year Analyst for a firm? (for ex. what classes should one take, what should a person major in, what should a person's strong point be?

This has been discussed many a time. Search the forum. Get a high GPA. Biology is to med school as economics is to IB. Take quantitative oriented classes. Have interesting EC's (they don't all have to be finance related). Get a summer internship between your junior and senior year in an IBD. Try to get some type of finance internship between sophomore and junior year. Be prepared for interviews. Etc, etc, etc.

I wouldn't bother it doesn't pay that much.

Don't worry you won't get in like 98.21% on this board. Also you probably don't even know what investment banking is.

You have no clue *** you are getting yourself into with that attitude. Praying for suicide by the age of 35 IMO.

Trying to figure out what word was censored up there.

It wasn't a word..it was an abbreviation for "what the _____"

Dawgie.....that percentage just went down...having more faith in us CCers huh?

dentists are paid very well, have shorter working hours, enjoy better job securities in general, and can always find positions in any cities. if you decide to concentrate on a specialty (such as orthodontics) later on, ur income will be even higher.

just follow ur original path.

Dawgie is absolutely right. Unless, of course, you go to an ivy league school, in which case 98.63% of students who apply become first year analysts; the other 1.37% account for projected death/suicides during the time between graduation and firm matriculation.

No offense, but your attitude is the reason that I scoff at 75% of business majors. Their motto is, "I want to sit in an office and make money! I know, I'll do business!"

I love Dawgie's authoritarian streak. Turns me on.

Here's a popular quote:

"If you're not thinking about quitting every day, you're not banking hard enough."

I admire that quote supermang.

It's more like when your life goes down the drain, it's time for a promotion.

I try my best.

"No offense, but your attitude is the reason that I scoff at 75% of business majors. Their motto is, "I want to sit in an office and make money! I know, I'll do business!"

I've decided I want to be a moderately intelligent monkey who wears a suit--so I'm transferring to business school!

-Futurama

Dawgie:

For the people who actually go to GOOD schools, the chance of getting into i-banking is pretty high. And most of the people on this board go to better schools than Bentley, no matter how amazing you try to convince us it is.

And yes: I am fully aware that you have done a Big 4 acct. internships and that you have friends "in" IB.

nodnard, thanks for taking the effort to post to my posts. Unfortunately, not everyone on this board goes to IVY league schools, so your post is pointless. Go cry me a river, while I do my DUTY.

I have never once said Bentley was amazing. In fact, I could careless what school I went too. In the end it's all about what job you have got from it. In my case, Big Four, and in my friends case (3.9+ GPAs) BB intern/full time @ IB.

Thats all irrelevant anyway. I clearly said 98.42% (Today's statistic) of people on this FORUM, and not the statistic for everyone going to IVY league schools. Why don't you try reading my posts before getting offended and angry like a child because of my nice little statistic?

"For the people who actually go to GOOD schools, the chance of getting into i-banking is pretty high. And most of the people on this board go to better schools than Bentley, no matter how amazing you try to convince us it is."

Wow, patronizing, much? I'm sure you went to a GOOD school. Here's a cookie.
