Invitation to Allegheny's Trustee Weekend?

My D just received an acceptance letter from Allegheny. The letter also said she would receive a Trustee Scholarship. However, there was no invitation to the Trustee Weekends . . . is this typical? Do those letters get sent separately?

We want to plan a visit, but would go to one of those weekends if invited!

My d rec’d a separate invite to the Trustees weekend. Unfortunately she will not be able to attend.

i received a trustee scholarship as well and i did not receive any invitation for trustee weekends.

^ Just wondering…Were you three happy with your financial aid packages? My daughter is very interested in Allegheny, and will probably apply next year, but we wouldn’t be able to afford it without a lot of aid.

was not at all happy with the FA package. by far the most expensive of the schools my d was accepted to, so we sent in notification that she was not accepting admission. Great school, but too expensive for us!

Our experience was the opposite:) We were very happy with FA and that combined with the merit scholarship makes Allegheny almost as affordable as our state school choice (not that my son has been accepted there yet). With that said, though, my son’s second and third favorite schools have ended up being shockingly expensive in comparison to Allegheny - however our EFC is high (IMO) – so satisfaction with FA can be relative…

Thanks for your responses. I’m worried because our EFC is also high—well, not high, but higher than we can afford, although I’m sure that’s a universal complaint. I’ll just have to keep reminding my daughter not to fall in love with any school until we have the financial aid packages in hand. We’re visiting Allegheny later this month—interview, class, tour, etc. I will probably report back because I think these solid but less well-known schools need more “air time” on CC.

Hi Mary13, I actually was very satisfied with the financial aid package that Allegheny gave me. In addition to the trustee scholarship, i received the bicentennial scholarship and some grants. If i attend Allegheny, tuition would actually be more affordable than my state school. Then again, my EFC was quite low.

My daughter received the Trustee Scholarship as well, and we did receive an invitation and attended last month.

My D just received her FA package Friday. I am very satisfied with it as well. In it we were informed she also received the Bicentennial Scholarship as well as a Grant for this coming year. But the EFC is high considering that I’m a single mom and there is no way I can pay that or get a loan for it. That’s heart breaking. My D is going to approach her father, and for once I hope he pitches in, but we’re not counting on it. Still, with PA’s new budget slashing the state schools, Allegheny is going to be the cheapest way for her to attend now. We’ll work it out somehow, her and I always do. This will be the Bicentennial Class … what an event to be part of! Why would anyone miss that?

Thanks for the info, JustaDream – that’s positive news.

pttsbrgher, congratulations on your daughter’s acceptance to Allegheny and good luck to you both. Like you, I’m still trying to figure out where the money is going to come from–it’s never an easy task!
