Invitation to Apply for Honors

Hello all, DD2 has just gotten a letter from the Honors college inviting her to attend. Auburn is one of her top choices, we are OOS so …of course, the $ has to work out so it is affordable for our family.

Does anyone have experience with the Honors program? Does it open up any additional scholarship opportunities? Any info or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Just letting you pick your courses before they have been picked over is a biggie. And, based on what I’ve seen, it can open opportunities - particularly if you work as a recruiter.

Congratulations to your daughter! Could you tell me was this invitation to honors college received by postal mail?
And

Was it an invitation to apply for honors college or to say she is accepted to the honors college?

thanks

Auburn requires you to apply to the Honors College. If it is like last year, you have until sometime in January to get your application in - there is an essay that is involved but I am not sure what else is involved. I think that you usually hear back in a couple of weeks if you got in or not.

Not sure if there is any money attached to it - my son applied and was accepted but ended up going to another school.

VPM-- the invitation came via Regular (Snail) mail. Regular envelope. There apparently is an additional essay… which came with a very challenging prompt. Something to the effect of “How can an Honors College Education” make a difference for you in the world".

I’m an OOS freshman at Auburn in the Honors College, and I really like it. The preregistration is definitely a plus. You get to do this every semester except for fall of your freshman year. Because of DE credit and honors, I registered before some seniors and got every single class I needed with little effort. The HC also has separate housing if you choose to live there (I live in honors in the village). Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions about Auburn or the HC! Oh yeah, if your D is a Presidential Scholar, acceptance to the Honors College is automatic, although you still have to write the essay for some reason (I just threw something together really quickly with little effort since it is basically a formality).

So glad you made OP since I just looked through son’s Auburn folder and found the invite to honors college he thought he had not receive. thanks

I believe if you get the Presidential Scholarship you do not need to apply to Honors - it is automatic - can anyone confirm that?

Yes. It is. You still have to write the essay though.

There is the potential for additional scholarship money. Last year my daughter applied for and received a $1000 scholarship from the Honor’s College. This was on top of the Presidential and Departmental scholarships.
