Invitation to apply for scholarships

Hey guys.
I just received an e-mail regarding an invitation to apply for scholarships. Is this something all applicants get? I'm an OOS applicant, and I do not know much about the UC system, so sorry if this is a stupid question.

Thanks in advance.

i got that e-mail, too. i'm also OOS. where u from?

i'm from boston

same here; you don't need the invite to apply, so I don't know if I'd make a lot out of it.

btw, OOS - Michigan

New York

what are your stats guys? haha :P
let's reveal the competitiooon!

hmmm... i got one too. oos from boston? is this a good sign or does it mean nothing??

It means you applied for Berkeley, no more no less.

But money is always nice :P

berkeley students, what are the stats of the people who usually get this scholarship?

I also got an invite, OOS from Nevada. I'll assume it means nothing.

I am OOS, I'm from Texas. I received it also.

I am IN-state from LA and just got the e-mail. I thought it was some sort of hinting at an early acceptance until I read the fine print... Bleh.

Washington
Are you sure it doesn't mean anything....it kind of suggests that.

Best way to know if it means something is to ask other people in your school who have applied if they got the invitation. That's what I'm going to do tomorrow.

if it's an alumni scholarship, it means nothing since the e-mail is sent to everyone. If its for a Regent's scholarship, it means your in.

man! alumni :( but good news nonetheless, more opm to fight over.

I got the Alumni Scholarship. I had very good stats and scores, but I don't think they even look at that, honestly. Don't remember the application asking for it. They are looking for commitment to extracurriculars and your leadership qualities. My essay was hardly creative (really boring question) so I was worried, but I guess my dedication to certain things was apparent. Also I think I had good recommendations. So now I have $1500 for freshman yr. Then I have to reapply which sucks.

good thing i read this thread. i just looked in my junk email and found the invitation to apply for alumini scholarship. i thought we applied for all scholarships automatically when we completed the application. what happened?

I'm in state and I received it too. Don't all Berkeley applicants receive it or am I mistaken?

soccersarah017 - I think you are correct. And ameer - it also went into our junk folder - good thing I checked, also! Did anyone actually RECEIVE the Regents invitation as mentioned above, or did everyone receive the same email (Alumni)?

Regent's/Chancellor's don't go out until Feb.....and to only the top few % of the app pool.

Dallas, TX
Berkely's site said that the invitation in no way implies you have a better chance of getting in
