"Invitation to Apply"

Did anyone else get this? I'm guessing yes...

What does the letter mean? Does it have any value/ boost my chances?

I did. I assume that it hasn’t got much value whatsoever, but I think that it wouldn’t be sent randomly. They must have checked out on their database and picked up candidates which fulfill some of Penn’s demands. I was happy when I received it, I loved the Huntsman Program and I hope to be admitted.

Yeah, I got that too. I’m hoping that since we are already recorded in their systems that’ll help our chances. ^__^

Was it delivered by a unicorn…then yes, it vastly improves your chances.

Actually, yes, it was. A lovely blue unicorn, with sparkles flying out of its mane with every toss of its head.

Fabulous!!

I just got an e-mail :frowning: No unicorn to me. I hope that the distance has something to do with it.

i get emails like that from yale and stanford all the time. so im pretty sure it means almost nothing.

Standardized testing scores probably did this.

i got it, so now i’m actually going to apply hehe. What a difference an email makes.

I got mine by a great, white whale named Moby Dick. So I’m guessing that means something.

^^It means you must live near the sea.

Hey, never doubt the power of Moby Dick. You never know.

One of my daughter’s gets a lot of these invites and emails, especially from UPenn. Harvard was just 1 mailing and Brown, UPenn is email and snail mail almost every week. She has average SAT scores, great grades and multi-racial. I don’t remember her brother with similar stats getting the same amount 4 years ago. I would think, unless for some reason, apps are dropping, Ivies get enough students applying without the heavy mail, whether by snail or email. Do they really need the application fee that badly or the yield stats?
I know it’s common for many, I just thought Ivies usually didn’t do it very much.
She might apply, but doesn’t think she has much of a chance and not because of the mail which she knows is not indicative of anything.
