Invitation to excellence

@woodlandsmom Thanks for this info on the Nov. session. My son got the invite for Nov. but could not make that date, so we are attending in two weeks. I am curious, since my son is also engineering, were there any “one-on-one” interviews or how do you feel the students are assessed in determining who gets the I2E? Also, if I may ask, what other schools is your son accepted to and considering?
When will the Nov. students find out if they got the scholarship or not? And does anyone know when Jan. students will find out?

@kims3blessings, my daughter was at I2E in November as well, and is engineering. There were no 1 on 1 interviews.

There is a faculty member at the table during the dinner, and then a reception after dinner with opportunities to stand around and ask questions of faculty, which included the dean. I would strongly suggest that your son come prepared with good questions and points of discussion about the program and the school, and plan to make his way around to all the faculty members during the meet and greet portion of Friday evening.

Saturday was the educational session, and there were opportunities for discussion within the group, though it sounded to me like there was less opportunity to stand out there. I may be wrong, as parents do not attend that portion.

I think the post-event essay has to be a huge part of the selection factor, but I suspect interactions with faculty are part of it as well, as the kids had to upload a pic of themselves with the essay, presumably to jog the memories of the faculty as to who was who.

@GoodGrief16 Thanks so much! Have you guys heard if she got the award? What other schools is she deciding between?

If she got it, we haven’t heard. My impression was that there was definitely some stiff competition in the November group! Many accomplished kids.

She cast a wide net, because so many of the schools were iffy as far as the possibility of admission, and then there were others that would require her winning a competitive scholarship to afford…like Baylor! Probably her most interesting non-Baylor acceptance was Princeton. She’s really drawn to Montana State too, but, again, needs a scholarship there that will not announce for a couple months. There are a couple other Christian colleges with scholarships in play too. Honestly don’t think the final verdict will be in until well into April.

Good luck to your student at I2I! Baylor seems really neat, and I think it would be a great place to go to school.

@kims3blessings I was placed in the Honors session so I’m not completely sure if the engineering session had one on one interviews, however the honors session had a small lecture session then we were split into small groups of five. There was no one on one meetings. It seems that the students will be assessed on their applications to Baylor, resumes, essays, and impressions on the faculty at the event. I have been accepted to UMHB, ACU, and ETBU so it seems they are just looking for strong college candidates in general. To answer your last question I do not know when the January scholarships will be announced, but the Nov scholarship is to be announced by Monday the 11th of this month. Has anyone heard anything more about the scholarship so far or received any contact about it?

@kims3blessings my son has gotten into OSU (hard to turn down due to scholarship) Texas A&M. We are waiting to hear from Harvard Duke and SMU. He said that he wished Baylor would offer a different tour since he’d already done it but that the information was great. The students we met were all top notch and I felt they were all like my son. (Good grades good scores) The non-engineering kids and the girls seemed more outgoing but he and I are sort of nerdy. Excellent program but for parents take a book to read.

Has anyone heard regarding the faculty scholarship for the November i2e event yet?

I don’t believe they’ve sent out notifications yet

Still no word on the faculty scholarship… anyone else?

Has anyone received an email? Still no word here and the financial aid department is supposed to be alerting people according to the admissions office.

@TroyTrojans I still haven’t received anything yet.

Let us know when you guys hear something, and how you heard? Did everyone log into the GoBaylor account? Maybe it is there, as that is what my friends’ son said in reference to how he heard.

@kims3blessings @worriedworm My mother and I called the addmissions department this afternoon and the counselor informed us that we would be notified by email and a formal letter in the mail, however the emails were supposed to reach us by late tonight according to her. Financial aid is in charge of notifying us and doesn’t seem that have made it to everyone today.

Our son’s first notification was thru his GoBaylor account. The size of his scholarship increased. A couple days later, the snail mail notification arrived. This was a prior year’s I2E.

@Xenabean Good point to check under financial aid. Good luck everyone!

Good luck to this year’s attendees! I hope you hear quickly.

I have been unable to pay my deposit so is it still possible to check under the financial aid section or will I have to wait for notification?

I spoke to the financial aid office this morning. They said the notifications were going out by mail this week and to keep an eye on the GoBaylor account. She would not tell me whether or not my daughter won a scholarship.

Try having your child call Financial Aid.

I hate to be pessimistic, but I’m assuming no change in the Go Baylor account means bad news at this point. My daughter’s has not changed.
