I checked my Grinnell portal (a nervous habit at this point) today and found an invitation to an accepted students day in March with a special reception and $500 travel reimbursement. I applied RD. Has anyone else seen this? Does this mean I've been accepted, or is there some chance this is a mistake? Any insight?

If you can’t speak much to this, what would you recommend I do? Just register for the event? Email admissions to ask them what the heIl is going on?

Grinnell is generous by offering the $500 travel reimbursement. You should contact the admission office to ask about it. Grinnell staff are genuinely friendly to help prospective students.

I would NOT email them and ask them what the he***

I WOULD call them and politely ask them if this means you are admitted because if you are then you definitely want to come.

As previously stated in this post, the staff at Grinnell for the most part are extremely polite and go out of their way to answer questions. It’s a small school in a small town so there’s a lot more personal attention.

Where do you see the invitation on your page?

There’s a heading, “Your Application,” and a large column straight down below it, which includes information, a chart with checks next to received items, etc. Right of this, there’s a smaller column, with the heading “Your Invitation,” that did not exist before I noticed it today.

I emailed them, because I won’t have time to call during their hours for a couple of days. I’ll update if they say anything interesting.

I don’t see that on mine :(

If this is a signal that Grinnell is instituting an “early write” program where top applicants get a “hint” that they’ll be accepted, I hope they find a clearer way to do it! Or, just go ahead and send applicants an outright early acceptance.

The year my D applied to NYU, that school wreaked all kinds of havoc by sending a “save the date” for accepted students day… My D thought it was just sent to everyone, so paid no attention to it, fortunately (or unfortunately, I suppose, since it might have been nice to know early!) But, since I followed CC, I saw the reaction from other applicants!

Good luck to all of you applying to Grinnell. If you go, I hope you will love it as much as my S does!

Update: The email response did not exactly answer the questions I asked. I WAS told it was some sort of glitch and wasn’t supposed to be visible yet, that they haven’t officially announced the program, and that I would know more next week. I’ll keep you posted.

thirrdplanet- Hopefully you’ll find out something next week, too!

Grinnell did have an “early write” program when my son was accepted, maybe 6 years ago. The letter came in late February. I’d heard about the possibility here on CC. It was a small envelope, but said “Congratulations” on the outside. Happy day! It was very clear that he’d been accepted and awarded a merit scholarship. I kinda think Grinnell sealed the deal with him that day, though he never formally decided until April 30th.

I saw it!

If it’s a prank, then you’re not the only one that’s been fooled.

It was honestly a huge relief for me, especially since one of my teacher recs was still listed as “Missing.” (The teacher sent it through snail mail)

I was not expecting an early write AT ALL and only went to my Grinnell portal so I could upload my financial aid documents. I’m ridiculously, deliriously happy. This is the first school I’ve heard back from.

I’m definitely planning on attending the admitted students weekend. See you all there!

Also, this wasn’t an early write - it didn’t “hint”. Mine outright offered me admission to Grinnell, and then had a link where I could submit my tuition deposit. Not planning on doing that just yet, but still extremely relieved that my fears of not being accepted anywhere have been vanquished.

It was basically an early write for the four days I didn’t know what was going on
However, Opaline, I’m with you on almost everything that you said, so I’ll just reiterate-- “I’m ridiculously, deliriously happy.”

That does mean you were admitted early I believe. I received my acceptance package today with my invitation to an event on campus in early March where they would pay $500 for me to get there.

My son applied RD and got his acceptance letter online…with the same offer to visit in March. Check your online account again to see if your acceptance letter is there…

Your acceptace package will be coming soon.

An early write is an acceptance. If they send a letter saying they liked your essay, that’s a hint.

Hi! I think I can clear up some concerns. I was just there on Friday, when they mailed out some acceptance packages (they handed mine to me in person!) The admissions team said that this is the first year they’ve done anything like this, but they basically screened the top applicants and offered them early admission to Grinnell, and an invitation to come to an overnight program March 3-4, I believe, that they’ll pay up to 500 dollars for travel reimbursement. The package in the mail has lots of information and should clear up any concerns. If you don’t get an early admission notification, that doesn’t mean you won’t be admitted, but just that they haven’t looked through your application yet, and you won’t get to go to the overnight program in March.

Plus the admission package has the scholarship information, which is nice to know early!
