Invitation

DD received something in the mail from UCSB today. It was mailed Feb 15. Is your invite a yellow envelope? She is not home yet so I'm not allowed to open it.

DD got the invitation. Yay!

yep thats the one

Just got the invitation this morning. So stoked even though UCSB isn't that high up on my college list.

My daughter got one today. It certainly is ego-boosting, although I noticed in one of the earlier postings that it doesn't necessarily mean honors.

I recently recieved the UC Santa Barbara Reception "for high-achieving applicants". I know questions are floating around if this letter means were accepted so I did some internet research and found this "Chancellor's Regional Reception 2008 - The UCSB Alumni Association invites you to attend a Chancellor's Regional Reception in your area to represent and promote your alma mater and to share your educational experiences and college memories with high achieving students who will receive admission to UCSB for Fall 2008, and their parents. Prior to the reception meet with UCSB Alumni Association Executive Director George Thurlow for a campus update and to meet other UCSB alumni living in your area. Click on the links below for further information. LA County, Bay Area, Silicon Valley, Orange County." on the UCSB alumni website February 2008 Gaucho eNews

Thanks for the clarification.

Anyone going to the San Francisco reception?

I got this today. It's pretty cool to hear back early from them on what basically means acceptance from what I've read.

forgottenhawk- I'm going to the SF one.

Did you notice the alumni have to pay to go?

I got one too... my stats aren't that great either...

~3.5 GPA, 1830 SATs

nbui3, i'm going to the one in Costa Mesa as well.

ALRIGHT! see you there. i'm the asian kid with a mowhawk

ya i got it too...
how many people do you think got it?

LOTS of PPL got it. Even those with a 3.78 GPA with 1830 SAT score!!!

Yeah I was pretty surprised at some of the people who got it at my school. Oh well...

Oh and I think I'm going to go to the San Jose one now...haha they're both about an hour's drive away for me anyway.

What u guys going to wear? or gals? lol

I got one too. But, is it that you will receive admission if you go? or they are going to admit you anyway? The one in my area is already full =( and I don't want to go to another one that's far away if it's not that necessary.

They will admit you regardless of whether you attend. The reason they hold these events is they realize many people apply to several UC schools without knowing a lot about particular campuses, figuring they'll look into it more once the decisions are out. UCSB has identified some of its stronger applicants and is inviting them to receptions to give them more info about the school in hopes they will decide to attend.

Why are people with much lower stats getting these offers?

I have a 4.1 UC GPA, and a 1950 SAT. I'm assuming i'll be admitted, but its a little suprising I didn't get an invite.

Aramin, the invitations may be based on the calculations of who is in the top 12.5% of their class at the end of their junior year which are performed as a part of the ELC process. That would make SAT's irrelevant, and if your GPA didn't result in your receiving the ELC eligibility notification at the end of your Junior year that may be the explanation.
