congratulations to your getting in UCSD, what college did you get into ??? what is your major ???
I am rejected to both UCLA and UCSD, however that is life

I am in Computer Science, from the material UCSB provide, their graduate computer science program is really really good, so I am happy going to UCSB as honors (I am also accepted to Irvine, but I think I will go to UCSB)

Some are just lifestyle reasons. He liked the laidback vib at SB. He thinks the area has its own culture with Isla Vista and the campus so intertwined. He loved riding his longboard everywhere.

Academically, the Mechanical Engineering department has excellent faculty. Chancellor Yee even teaches a section! The 5 year program really interests him where he could get a BS in Mech Eng and an MS in Materials. He also has been invited to be in the Honors program.

We live within 30 minutes of UC Irvine so UCSB would be the school my S would prefer however, if we didn’t live so close to UCI, my S would prefer UCI. It is very close to Newport Beach and is in a very picturesque area of town. For me, the Barclay Theater on the UCI campus is as good as it gets for attending performances. I also like the great selection of restaurants within a short walk of the UCI campus. My kid doesn’t like schools with a “party culture”, which UCSB has in comparison to UCI. As an Engineering major, he was concerned about the distractions that could exist at UCSB with all the parties that take place, and that he would have less time to partake compared to some of the other majors. When we visited, we didn’t find anything special about the campus location and the town of Isla Vista. Isla Vista “rocks” nightly and there are thousands of students living in a very small area of space. Yes the campus is near the beach, but it is also next to a local airstrip and is not really in the quaint town of Santa Barbara.

There is no “right” answer to which of these two schols are better overall. I know when I was in college I wanted to party so, for me, UCSB would have been the clearcut winner. You will get a good education at both schools, you just may have more distractions at one over the other.
