Well, I received one.

As I've never joined one of those events, I really want to ask:

-How is it conducted? Is is orderly? How do I pose questions? Is it one-to-one or many/all-to-one?

-By whom?(looks like students, but will officials be present?)

-Does joining/not joining this event have any bearing on my application to Columbia University? (I would hazard a guess at "No", but you guys know better than I)

Thanks a lot!

i’ve never heard of something like that happening. kinda sad i wasn’t invited though, apparently :(

but my guess is that it would be a few officials answering a bunch of people’s questions. i doubt it’d be one-to-one. neither do i think that it would affect your application in any way if you didn’t go.

hope it goes well though!

I received the email too!

@wombatlikewoah: it’s stated for perspective international students. Perhaps that’s why you are not invited? Don’t worry. =)

I guess there are different chat rooms for different topics? Like student life, academic programs, application details…

“If you already have a Username and Password, a link will appear at the scheduled time which will allow you to log in to the chat.”

I have registered but did not see the link. Why is it so? >.<

I’ve also received the e-mail there is no link as of now because the link will appear sometime around 12:00 PM ET. that’s about three and a half hours away.

usually it is many undergraduates and some admissions officers, with as many students who come on, i remember doing chats when i was a ugrad and it would often be like 5-10 of us to 50-150 students, but manageable, and a lot of the high school students would help themselves.

the chat as i recall has multiple rooms and you can PM someone if you have a specific question.

it has no bearing on your admission, but it is obviously done for international students to help them ask questions that usually you can’t when you don’t live in the country, also probably international students will be on the chat so they can offer their perspective.

this is of course presuming nothing has changed, but i don’t think it has.
