Hi everyone, Brown ED applicant here. Majoring – ahem, concentrating – in computer science. I went to a Brown visit, and sent in my Common App, and a few days ago, I got an email from the Brown CS department.
Of course, I accepted as soon as I could. On the official event registration website, which now 404s if you try to visit the page, it was said that only 60 students could be accommodated. It seems like lunch will be provided. (Disclaimer: I want to respect the Brown CS dept.'s privacy, so I’ve redacted the names of professors who’ll be speaking at the event and the exact event date.)
My main question for CC is: is this a good thing? Is everyone invited to these kinds of events, or does Brown think I’m special? I’m so honored to be invited, but should I be? Should I pick my hopes for admission up a tiny bit? Is this exclusive?
Brown officials, if you see this: I’ve read everything I could on this event, and I don’t see anywhere that this is confidential. If I shouldn’t have posted this, then I’ll report it so a mod can take it down ASAP. Love you, Brown.
No one has read your application and invited you because of it, if that is what you are hoping. Most admissions officers are on the road now, and not in the office reading.
