Invited for Film & Television (TFT) Interview -- What does it mean??

I received the email for the in person interview for my application to TFT’s Film and Television BA and I am so excited!! I’ve done a little research on what it means and I know that only 30 applicants get invited each year, but I was wondering if anyone had more information? I know the class size each year is around 30, but does that mean that they accept more than 30, or they just accept 30 and nearly everyone goes who gets in?

I guess essentially: Does getting an interview basically mean you’re in? And you’d only get rejected if you did quite badly on the interview? Or is it still a battle for admissions at this point? (Obviously I’m not looking for an excuse to slack at my interview, I just want to know how optimistic to be!!)

Also, for anyone who has gone through the interview process, what was it like? My email said the interview is only around 15 minutes, which seems really short… And I would by flying all the was over from the East Coast! Does anyone know if they help pay for the flight/help with accommodations?

Thanks everyone!! And best of luck to my fellow TFT applicants!

My daughter has been waiting to hear…I guess that means e-mails went out today and she didn’t get one. Best of luck to you! I would think they would agree to a SKPE interview since you’re so far away. Did they ask you to call to set up an interview time?

@dana37 Thank you! I hope your daughter gets one! No, they gave me a few time slots in the email and asked me to reply with my availability and some other information

Current TFT student here! Interviews are a really good sign (I believe you have to be interviewed to be admitted to TFT) but it doesn’t mean you’re in yet. Last year they invited about 45 people to interview and accepted about 30. I would imagine numbers this year will be similar. They don’t pay for anything but will probably offer skype interviews if necessary, but I would highly recommend going to campus. The interviews are pretty laid back - message me if you’d like more info.

@dana37 did your daughter get an email? I was waiting to hear back too and since I didn’t, I’m assuming I didn’t make the cut…

@ebcd2016 No, she didn’t receive an interview request. I’m assuming that means she didn’t get in. I called the admissions office at TFT and they said “interviews are rolling…” I don’t buy it. I’m sure the freshman interviews are complete by now. She did get a SKPE interview to USC SCA film production though. It’s so random! Good Luck!

Congrats, that’s so exciting! I hope everything turns out for the best! You’ll be fine, just breath and say what you know. I’m sure that everything will be okay. I didn’t get one, which I’m assuming means that I got rejected. I really hope that you get to go, that’s an amazing opportunity

My son had an interview last Saturday and it was for 15min. The graduate students who were helping the interviewees there said they could not answer any questions related to admissions. So, no idea how many were invited that day or if there’s another interview day for others.
Maytheforce, are you from Florida? Cause my son said there was one girl in the waiting area who flew from Florida. Good luck to you!

@yingyang1998 Thank you do much, you are so sweet and you have an amazing outlook

@genesis123 Congrats to your son, and best of luck to him! No, I’m actually from Maryland so I flew from even father haha  On their admissions website, TFT says that it interviews approximately 30 candidates and accepts approximately 30, although based on what lnic817 said, they might interview closer to 45. I think all the interviews were conducted last weekend, if not just on the 20th, but I couldn’t say for sure. They told me I should hear back in around 2 weeks though, so I suppose I should just hang on until then!

Is this TFT interview separate from the interview process done for acting majors? I had an interview along with my audition. But did not get an email about this tft interview. Does this mean I am basically rejected? @maytheforce @genesis123

I think the interview and audition for acting or MT, which is under Theater is separate from the interviews for Film, Television and Digital Media.

So, hopefulllgal, you have full reasons to be still hopeful.

oh wow. thank you for the response. @genesis123

Did you get in?
My son just got wait listed :frowning:
Hope the best for you.

So it confirms that TFT interview doesn’t guarantee the acceptance. Whoever got accepted without interview should post here for future TFT applicants.

I’m going in for an interview tomorrow. I didn’t think they were so far along in their interview process already. I’ll let you know how it goes.
I’m 23 and this is my 3rd time applying to UCLA TFT and the first time getting an interview. Hopefully it goes well. What was the common attire? Ahaha tie no tie? Casual or business casual. Why is it so stressful

For TFT? Wow! Good luck! Show your passion.

Are you a transfer student?

My d got in today as a freshman film major at tft! She did not have an interview, so we didn’t think this was possible. We are thrilled and shocked!

Has any transfer students already heard back from UCLA for interviews? Some threads on here from the past few years show that tft interviews rolled out late-March and early April, but I guess they started a month earlier this time around
