Hi

I just got an email saying that there's a faculty dinner in our college, if students want to come, we will have to bring a professor.

The problem is I didn't do really well in my midterm, should I still invite my professor? Will they prefer to have lunch or dinner with A students?

If there's a faculty dinner at your college that means your college encourages students and professors to get together informally and that's why the college is sponsoring that dinner. It would be a good idea to invite a teacher whom you appreciate or whose field you wish to know more about.

The fact that you didn't do well on your midterm isn't important. The professor will probably be flattered/honored that you chose to invite them,

I imagine that the college is sponsoring the dinner to make it easier for students and professors to get together informally and to also avoid the uncomfortableness or misperceptions that may arise if a professor invited a student to lunch or dinner by themselves.

I am a former college prof and am married to a college prof.
