Living in the dorms, I'm using the secured "UCLASECURERES" network. It's speedy though after just having downloaded iOS5 on my Mac, iPad & iPod Touch, I can't get WiFi syncing to work.

Just wondering if anyone else had figured a solution?

If so, I'd never have to connect my iPad or iPod to my Mac ever again, and that's something i'd like to accomplish. Especially walking in the dorm, and having all my class lecture podcasts sync up instantly.

I’ve had the same problem too. UCLA configures their networks oddly: either they’re blocking ports to allow such traffic or they’ve got them set up on different subnets.

Anyway, a few solutions come to mind:
- use your own router
- make an ad-hoc network with your mac
- just use the darn cable, it’s must faster

I’m gonna stick to using the sync cable.

Well, the dorms don’t allow use of a router. When you connect to the internet with one it tells you that they’ve detected your using a WiFi router and prevent you from going online with it.

I think if push comes to shove i’ll have to use the cable; though really like the idea of not having to connect it ever again.

Did you configure your router correctly? I remember being able to use my own router for the past two years.

As far as I know, there’s no rule against routers in the dorms. I remember my freshman year, I think if you were in a triple, you could even borrow one from the STC (since there wasn’t wifi in most dorms).

Hm… just looked it up, and it’s not forbidden, just discouraged.

Oh, and maybe this link will help you?

I’m guessing they discourage students using their own routers because it would create too many signals that may interfere with each other, especially since most people don’t bother to change the channel their routers broadcasts on.
