So I've read all the relevant threads about this program and am under the impression that results should/were sent out at the end of March, or at the break of April....and....still nothing! To those of you who applied to Iowa SSTP this year(or I guess last year or even before), have acceptances and rejections been sent out already? (if the answer's yes, I guess i'm rejected...really wanted to go)

ow ow, my heart is broken! Well sort of, because I guess that means that I’ve been rejected!
Congratulations to your son on his acceptance to SSTP and the other program that you spoke of! I hope I can be as fortunate to be accepted into the other programs I applied to (but my confidence level has basically been depleted, haha)

my son also applied, but didn’t hear anything from iowa SSTP. He got accepted to UCSB-RMP, so he’s happy to be going there for the summer as a sophomore.

I emailed Mr. Swain a long time ago about application confirmations, and I think they just don’t bother to send them out.

And maybe we haven’t heard anything because we’re on ther verge of being taken off the waitlist and put on the accepted list.

(accept yesterday I sorta sent an extremely spazzy (not in an impolite way, more in an informal way) email concerning my status and any chance i had is probably gone!

I had prepped everything for U of Wisconsin’s diversity program but then gave up at the last minute bcs I found out, through a phonecall, that they select mostly Wisconsin students who are first generation univ-goers and(!!) on free lunch program! I cannot satisfy any of their requirements(?) which were/are nowhere specified on their website. I am losing hope on WWSP too because of those findings even though it does not seems to be a diversity program… Going to call WWSP the first thing Monday morning.

Michlu,
Don’t lose hope. The proces is that the coordionator emails the selected students and get their confirmation. When he gets a “no” he emails the next person in the list. I am also not sure some time different labs/departmenets may come back to the coodinatore at different times. Still there is hope.
However, noty doing a summer research in the end of the road. You can still do college level courses (even in a local community college as long as these courses are above and beyond the school level courses) and do not have to go to the name brand colleges for this. It just costs more money. College admission officers know if a kid attempts to impress them or he genuinely interested and did something out of his way using the facilities available to him in and around his community.
Good luck

Ah parent62 thank you for the reassurance! If I end up rejected from Iowa SSTP then i still have two other programs I’ll be waiting on, very hopefully.

By the way, is it rude to send an email requesting the program director of SSTP for my status? That’s exactly what I did yesterday, and I was a little bit…unusual in my words (not rude though! just…unusual, sort of accidentally eccentric.) I just wish these professors were nice enough to notify applicants of their statuses, because we REALLY DO CARE.

thank you though, for your support! College courses over the summer seem like a time-saving idea. I just really hope to do something worthwhile over the summer, and was really hoping to discover something great, haha.

@Michlu:
What does “WWSP–> SSTP” mean? On post #7, I wrote WWTP instead of SSTP.

About your email to the director: I think it is ok. They might even take it as your extra-enthusiasm. I wouldn’t worry. What were your stats, may I ask?

stats, ah ok:
the current APs I"m taking are English, German, Calc, Bio, and Gov
PSAT: 238 (totally didn’t predict my SAT score, sadly)
SAT: 2210
GPA: 4.1

in the end, my stats are the same as all the other asians applying, I’m sure
so hopefully my essay stood out somewhat, or my teacher recs!

Wait so Iowa SSTP is the program that mostly only accepts Iowanians (erm…)?

@Michlu
Good stats! Heard anything, btw? As for me, you were right -waitlisted… This wait is aaaaaaaaaaagonizing
Also, what I meant was that Wisconsin diversity program accepts mostly Wisconsin kids and very very few out of staters.

ok so Mr. Swain replied to my email today, and said that he had already filled 20 out of 25 spots, and expected to be done at the end of this week. AHHHHHHHH
Good luck to us
