I just got an email saying that I’m selected as an “alternate” bc they can’t match my research interest. Is that the same as rejection then?
Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is?
My daughter was informed of her acceptance about an hour ago, matched to a biochemistry professor. She is a rising junior from NY. Not sure how selective this program is or what the selection process entails, but we applied based on the list provided by an MIT admissions blog on summer programs (and this program appeared to be the only one on the list that rising juniors qualified for, others are open to rising seniors only). For stats for future applicants, she has been interning all year at a local college’s biology lab (about one day a week after school since Sept), submitted PSAT score of 1480 and Bio SAT score of 800, and her UW GPA is 4.0.
For those rising juniors, the beauty of applying this year is that you get another bite at the apple next year and can broaden chances by applying to other programs as well. Hope this helps.

@ThinkOn @UnicornHorn Using 2015’s data, the acceptance rate came at about 23.2%. I found this on their Wordpress website. Congratulations to your daughter, ThinkOn!

I got alternate… does SSTP just send the alternate email to everyone who wasn’t accepted, or is there a seperate email for those who weren’t accepted at all?
Accepted into a biochem lab! I may decline though, depending on my other camps’ admissions. How does UCD YSP compare to SSTP?
@Anniqueg I’m sorry you didn’t get in, especially since you were so kind enough to start this thread. For all that were given alternate status, stay tuned for an update in status on April 10th as perhaps some students will decline the offer for a different summer opportunity.
Just got rejected from SSP. I am hoping to be taken off the waiting list so I can go to SSTP… but I don’t think it’s likely because my essay was total crap
