<p>Obviously not every school is going to have these problems, but it's worth considering and researching. If your school is one of those that don't support the iPad, it's probably best to buy another laptop instead of a $600 iPad that can't connect to the internet.</p>
<p>If you read the article, they are talking about 20% of the iPads at only two universities. I suspect that it may take a little while for some IT departments to come to terms with new technologies. My college IT department freaked out over the use of iPhones on their network, and they blamed a network outage on an iPhone. It turns out that the outage occurred because of a bad switch, and that the whole thing was about rigid IT guys hostile to any technology with which they were already unfamiliar.</p>
<p>I also wonder how an iPad connecting to a campus network would be any different than an iPhone or iPod Touch connecting to that same network? Sounds like hysteria to me.</p>
