What bugged me is that while I had a BlackBerry for over a year, not a single one lasted more than 3 months. The trackball either stopped working (wouldn’t click), or the movement would become too sporadic for practical use. Incredibly glad I had insurance, as I’d have shot myself if I had to pay $499 for a new one. (The e-mail also didn’t synch correctly, so I’d have to delete the e-mail on my phone AND on my computer for it to be gone)

For the ringtones, I actually go to Audiko.net. They have thousands of songs already on there that people have made ringtones out of, and you just download the iPhone version and drag and drop it into the Ringtones section of your iTunes. It allows you to upload a song from your computer, and choose what 1-30 seconds of it you’d like to crop out for your ringtone. It’s way handy, and definitely saves you from having to buy those $.99 ringtones from iTunes.

^^ Thanks for sharing that site. I’m using that from now on…but I guess that means I have to install iTunes on my computer, but frankly, I’m still convinced iTunes is evil.

Could just be your phone…all my family members have blackberrys and there have been no issues with the trackball. I’ve had mine for about 1.5 years and not one problem.

PlattsburghLoser, he posted referring to if you have an iPhone. If you have an iPhone, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t use iTunes. If you don’t have an iPhone, you don’t have to use iTunes. (I actually don’t think you can for other phones)

You can also download the .mp3 and .amr files from Audiko if your phone takes those for ringtones. But yeah, I was first referring to the iPhone.

Like Another_Adam asked, what was your bad iTunes experience? If it has to do something with one of the newer versions, you can always just use an older version and never upgrade it.

Besides the obvious fact that it is a phone debunking your theory of it just being a toy, what makes you say that? I’ve had mine for a while now, and mark my words, it is quite phone-like.

hmm, I sound like Im debunking the iphone, but thats not what Im trying to do. My point is that compared to the iphone, the blackberry is more practical, I guess for business? At least according to my dad, who has used both for work.

BlackBerry Messenger, of course! And record video - which I believe falls under the “toy” category (But it’s rumored to possibly be coming with the 3.0 update this June)

In all honesty, assuming you’re a student, I can’t see why you’d go for the BlackBerry over the iPhone. If you’re in the business world, I can see why they’d go with BlackBerry, but as a student, the iPhone offers me substantially more than my BlackBerry did. (It has also yet to give me any troubles in regards to software and hardware, which the BlackBerry was notorious for in my household!)
