Ipod file type question

I'm thinking about buying an Ipod for college, but when researching it, I found out they don't play wma, and a good portion of my music on my computer is wma. Anyone know a, perferrably free, way to convert these to mp3 or a way around this?

Also, I can play music obtained in various ways, right?

iTunes, the software that is bundled with iPod, converts unprotected WMA files (meaning you can't buy songs off Napster or URGE or whatever) for free.

You can play any music file, as long as it's in the following formats:
mp3
wav
AAC (including protected AAC from the iTunes Music Store)
Apple Lossless

tunebite is a program that converts any wma files into mp3's, meaninng if you have something like yahoo music that saves things as wma, you can use tunebite to make it an mp3 (meaning you are converting it from a protected file to your own). not legal, but a possibility.

so tunebite would work on music from protected CDs like the ones from RCA? I hate that little program those CDs bring up.

get a different mp3 player. the one that plays WMA. like creative zen vision:m for example. jeez. people are so quick to jump on the bandwagon.

anyone know of any players that support ogg vorbis and flac?

iostream cowon iaudio x5 supports both.

I've tried others, and I like the ipod by far the best. The others that will actually hold that many songs are too clunky.

bmanbs2 sure. creative zen vision:m or philips hdd6330 are just enourmous in comparison to the junkpods. and they attract scratches even more than nano, leave alone the G5. and who in the world would need fm radio, voice recording and usb mass storage without any etra $50 cables and add-ons? and why would you ever get a player that doesn't bind you to a specific computer? and why would you want to sae money on an mp3 player? gosh, those ipod haters are so stupid, arent they?
PS yeah, and only idiots would not want to watch videos on junkpod's gargantuan 2.5-inch screen.

i have an ipod nano, but that's only b/c it was free. i like it, but i'm no elitist. i would've probably bought another brand had i had to spend my money...but ipod's don't bind you to any specific computer...just for the record.

try to get the songs from one computer where you registered the ipod in itunes, then go to another computer and copy the songs off the ipod.

as was said, ITUNES AUTOMATICALLY CONVERTS IT FOR YOU.

i mentioned tunebite, but that's only if your wma are protected and you want them for yourself.

no, i'm talking about any song. mp3 would work. just try it.

oh my bad.

people should get ourtunes as well. but you didn't hear that from me.

that's one of numerous problems with the junkpods. they're like an apartment with a couch, a stowe, and a 5-inch tv which only plays one channel and nothing else. you sure can add a lot more stuff, but that will cost you a bunch of extra money.

aghhh I hate my Ipod...it'll always bail on me during the worst of times (eg. a 8hr plane ride)....I'm done ranting.

I have this problem too! Except i dont think it's wav.. I think it's like Audio File or somthing like that?

I cant even play it on Itunes?! Like, I tried to move the songicon from MyMusic, to the Itunes thing, but it doesn't GO INTO THE ITUNES THING?!

Hey, I haven't seen that phillips one before. Anyone know of any problems with it?

bmanbs2 i have one. flawless so far (bought it in march).

dragging the icon tends to not work with itunes. get a converter from download.com (I forgot which one I have) and convert to any acceptable format and it should work if you add file/import/or copy and paste.
