Hello, I was so excited to get my iPod mini in the mail, but I just can't seem to connect it. I need to connect the usb 2.0 cord from my iPod mini to a usb port on my computer (it is a dell desktop). Where are these ports normally located??? I really have no technology knowledge so I would really appreciate your help!!!

Thanks so much,
Jaimie

is it a new dell?

usually the new ones have the ports in front of the computer. they're rectangular, and look like this

[____]

It is a few years old and I don't see any port at all on the front of the computer. Would it be on the underside? Thank you though, do you have any other ideas?

then it would be on the back side of the computer.

It'll either look like [_______]

or like this

like, its either vertical or horizontal. look next to where your keyboard is plugged in.

I don't see it, but there is something next to where the keyboard is plugged in with a cord already in it that looks like it could be it. Do computers usually have two usb ports? Is it normal for my printer to be plugged into one of them and my keyboard into the other?
Thanks so much for helping me, prolixity. NorCal love!

Ok, so those two slots are definitely usb ports. I think I'll just get something you plug in where you get more ports, if they have that. Thanks

Yep, there are USB Hubs to expand the number of USB ports. Also, even an old Dell has some ports in front. Did you check any covers on the front that could open up to reveal a port or two?

"Do computers usually have two usb ports?"

Yeah, that's the standard, but no so much anymore.

"Is it normal for my printer to be plugged into one of them and my keyboard into the other?"

Yeah, though if you had PS/2 ports (they're circle), I'd plug your keyboard into that to save a USB port. I'm pretty sure you do since your mouse isn't plugged into one of the two USB ports.

Just to be sure, USB ports/plugs are rectangular and pretty flat. The icon for it is lines connected to dots and it branches out from a main line. Sorta like a pitchfork...

Thanks so much ucapplicant05, I'll search for more ports or just get on of those hubs.

if it's in one of those black cases, see if the grey panel lifts open... in http://www.shinyplastic.com/reviews/dell-dimension-8400/dimension-8400-case.jpg , the little portion with the round dell logo in the front. in many computers i've seen, that'll pop right up (it's attached via a hinge) and there will be ~2-4 usb ports right there.:)

You're very welcome, jaimie17. Please don't hesistate to ask any additional questions.
