which 20 Gig do you recommend?

I have a 40 Gig Creative Nomad. It's nice. I'd recommend a 20 Gig or less though; I don't think I'll EVER fill it up. I've heard Ipod horro stories. creatives are cheaper and have replaceable, rechargable batts.

I have an iPod. Get the Zen or its Archos brand equivalent (or superior-- Yes, you read the price correctly).

We have Zen Micro and we're very happy with it. Easy to use, versatile in what formats it will play, recording capability and integrated FM tuner if you want to listen to a game or something.

either one of those two
If I'm to choose, iriver H10

everyone here seems really bent on convincing me on buying a certain mp3 player (sarcasm)

i love the creative labs products... zen... muvo

buy the ipod. mine is my favorite gadget ever.

@slipstream99: Do you have experience with any other HDD MP3 players that you may compare? Until you do, I can only trust that it's the best that you have, not the market.

@sleepy23: I take my gadgets very seriously. I can give you a full rundown of the reasons not to buy an iPod, if you'd like. Depending on the type of consumer you are, I'll give you a suggestion of exactly what you should get. I'm assuming, of course, that you're against the monopolizing of the industry, buyer lock-in, peer pressure, and "digital rights management" as it is currently handled. Here are only a few reasons: you can't pull audio files off of your iPod and back onto your computer (unless you have a hack like iPodPlayerPackage, which is against Apple's warranty policy and is not available for Macintosh computers), your iPod must be formatted for either Mac or PC (it cannot connect to both unless you clear the entire disk), bleh. I'm sick of it. If you are really considering an iPod, drop a reply below. I'll dredge up some old knowledge and posts for a technological gripe fest.

I'll most like buy the creative zen touch. Thanks to everyone that replied. Just wondering... what mp3 player do you have Nom?

I have a first-generation iPod Mini. It was a gift, and I really do love the thing for what it was designed to be, but I prefer flexibility, compatibility, and capability over style, hipness, and marketing. I had an Archos Jukebox Recorder 20 for what must have been two years. That was a very rugged piece of equipment, running on an easily hacked platform, permitting end user extensibility that Apple is afraid to offer its customers. After dropping the brick for the umpteenth time, the headphone jack finally gave way. It still functions as a USB 2.0 external harddrive (a big deal given when it was made). Archos' feature to cost ratio is inspired. . .

i am confused, wats the diff btw 1st n 2nd generation ipod??

if you consider sd cards to be storage space, then you might want to check out the lexar ldp-600. it has 512 megs in the player, but the sd cards makes it pretty much unlimited. the unique thing about it is that it has an fm transmitter built-in. sync it up with a car or home stereo and you could play your mp3s through that. otherwise, it's just like any other mp3 player.

Nom, you are mistaken. The music files are very easy to get off of Ipod. All you do is allow hidden files to be viewed, go to my computer, click the ipod icon, and they're in a certain hidden folder.

someone ans my ques please...... :p

@neha1: It would be redundant to answer that here. I suggest reading iPod Lounge's FAQ. As is, more than 8 different models of iPod have been released.

@knightmare: I'll get back to you on that. I'm very surprised that that idea never turned up before at iPodLounge. . . hmm

There appears to be a featured article right at the top of the ipodlounge webpage called "copying music from ipod to computer"

Family, friends, colleagues. . . I am a moron.

However, that technique requires third party software, like the iPodPlayPackage I mentioned. I still haven't heard of any surefire way to pull files off of an iPod. Even if one were to, they wouldn't be organized as they are in the file browser.

Ignore that person who told you to buy an Archos. NEVER buy an Archos. You get what you pay for - they suck.

You have got to be kidding me. Alright, I'm interested in your arguments. have found them out I've clocked my archos at 15+ hours of battery life, the new Archos models support several additional formats, the firmware is Linux based and far more expandable, and users are treated like owners not tenants.
