IR - impacted major

Is International Relations a heavily impacted major? I hope not xp

what do you mean by "impacted"?

NYU > Politics > International Relations Undergraduate Program

I think my son is going to apply for this in the fall (when he will be a sophomore)

impacted as in a popular major among prospective undergrads.

The IR program I linked to is an honor's program you can apply for as a sophomore, they only take 25-30 students each time. So I'm guessing there is some competition

NYU > Politics > Undergraduate Program is the link for the Political Science dept.

I don't think you can declare IR as a major, you have to apply once you are already at NYU (or if you are transferring in as a sophomore or Junior)

NYU > Politics > International Relations Undergraduate Program

did you read all the qualifications and courses and other info on this link?

Yeah, IR at NYU is supposed to be a really competitive major...to be even considered, you should have at least a 3.65 GPA and have taken all of the pre-requisite courses. Also, you can only apply at the end of your sophomore year, and it's an honors major. Once you're not accepted to the major, however, I think that's it. I think it's really competitive at NYU because of the presence of the UN in New York City, etc. But you could major in Politics in CAS and take internationally focused courses, maybe even double majoring in a foreign language...there's even a part on the IR site about what you should do in the case you're rejected for the IR major. It probably doesn't make too too much of a difference, IR and Politics majors are probably just as likely to get the same internships and stuff...

you apply the beginning of your sophomore year Therefore, interested students need to submit a formal application, by October 15 of their sophomore year.

it says so here NYU > Politics > Program of Study

My son is taking V53-0700-001 international politics in the spring. He plans on taking 2 summer classes this year, Expressive Cultures: Words and Intensive Intermediate French II (that is 10 credits and will finish out his MAP requirements). He ended this semester (his first) with a 3.675

He says he going to apply for this IR thing, we'll see what happens!
