I've read up on the International Relations major at Stanford and it looks good, but can it compare to the East Coast institutions like Princeton, Tufts, Gtown, Harvard? Also, would it be worth attending Stanford (an overall better school) over Tufts, a school renowned for its IR program?

Please advise!

I believe Johns Hopkins' international relation program is also a top-notch.

H and P don't offer IR majors. P's Woodrow Wilson School is a solid research institution (and a magnificent opportunity for undergrads) and H's Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School might serve some of your interests. Neither will offer the comprehensive range that Stanford's IR major (an interdisciplinary major) offers. You might also want to research Stanford's International Security honors program, and the research institutions present at Stanford. They are all top notch.

Georgetown, Tufts, and JHU are all excellent schools, but Stanford offers stronger departments in other subjects and a much more stable financial basis.
