I'm am planning on applying to Georgetown, Tufts, Holy Cross, William and Mary and GW but my guidance counselor told me I could use another safety or two and a reach...Any ideas for IR schools?

American U. What can your family afford?

^ I’m not sure I’d really consider American a safety school.

If you want real safety schools (guaranteed to get in), I’d apply to University of Maryland and University of Virginia.

Either way, IR careers don’t rely much on your education, so just go to the school you like the most.

^ UVA is actually much more difficult to get into than American. Scores and selectivity are both higher.

I just need one or two where I would almost have a guarantee of getting in

A 1380 is at the top of American’s 25-75 range maybe even over, so I don’t see why it isn’t a pretty good safety. For a reach, what about Johns Hopkins? If you’re interested in LAC’s at all, Macalaster would be a match and you should consider Middlebury. For Middlebury you could submit your SAT II scores in lieu of your SAT I.

American should be a safety for you, and is quite strong in IR. Your scores are above their 75th, and their acceptance rate is >50%.

What state are you from? Your instate public may be a safety, depending on which state you are from.

I agree with American.

It is much easier than UVA for out of state.

Thanks for the ideas, and I’m from New York

You should add a SUNY, too.

American is rolling admissions, so you may want to get that app in soon.

I actually visited American and didn’t really like it…
