Iranian Students

Good afternoon everyone!

My name is Asal, and I will be attending the university of Texas at Austin next year as a freshman.

I made this forum for those Iranian students who intend to attend a college in the US.

Let’s get to know each other, and ask any questions regarding admissions, scholarships, financial aids, or student life at any college in the United States.

@Soheils This might be of interest.

Hi Asal!

My name is Soheil, and I will be attending Harvard University in the fall.

Thank you for the thread, compatriot! I like few things more than helping fellow Iranians.

@ZAPrez thanks for the mention. :slight_smile:

@Soheils No problem, and congratulations on your Harvard admission!

@asalsd Thanks!

Hi asal,
Thank you for making this ^^
I haven’t applied yet but I’m working on my application and stuff.
I just graduated from high school and will start pishdaneshgahi in fall ^
^ I will be applying after my Konkur. Do you think it’s too late?
Oh also, did you take SAT? if so, please tell me where and how.

Hello Asal, Soheil and my iranian friends!
I’m Sina. I’ll start my senior year this fall and I have aimed for studying at Ivy league next year.
I’ve got a question and I didn’t know were can I ask it but I think this forum can be the best one since you are familiar with iranian way of application.
I have just received my SAT II scores,
chemistry:750
math level 1:710
math level 2:740
I just wanted to know that if they are good enough for the Ivy league or I should take them again
I’m just so confused :frowning:
@asalsd @Soheils

HI everyone
I’m from Iran too
still completing my application

Hey everyone! Junior year student here. I will be applying next year. To all of you applying this year: it would be great if you let us know about the results.

Good luck to all!

@sirsinaghobadi Hi Sina! I know I’m super late, but your scores are very good. Good job! Admission into ivy league school is never a guarantee though, even with perfect scores. I don’t know about Ivy Leagues, but for Rice, I took Chemistry and Math II and I got 760 and 740 respectively. I got waitlisted. :frowning:
If you have applied and gotten in, great! If you haven’t, it doesn’t matter at all! I actually changed my mind, and I am attending Texas Christian University currently because I got a full ride scholarship. The ranking for TCU isn’t very high, but it’s a great school, and has a very good pre med program. I have a friend at MIT, and her biology classes are almost the same as mine in content. What makes ivy leagues different is the people: you will most likely find truly intelligent, unique individuals out there. Other than that choose a school with a good program that you are interested in, and try to choose the cheaper option, especially if you plan on going to professional schools afterwards.
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do great. And as a friendly advice, rankings are rather important, but don’t base your life on US News and World Report! :slight_smile:

@Golsana
Hi Golsana! Sorry I’m super late on this!
I am a little confused here: why are you taking Konkour if you intend to apply to American schools? But to answer your question, it is never late to apply, especially with the difference of only a year! If you intend to apply for 2017-18, keep in mind that applications open in about early August, so you’d want to have taken your SATs before then. You can also look into taking ACTs as well, and send in whichever one is higher, since some people do better on one than the other.
As of SATs, are you residing in Iran? If so, I am very positive that you are not able to take the SATs there, so you might have to go to Arab Emirates, or any where else at your convenience. I am sure that College Board website has the locations of all the test sites. If you cannot find the info that you need, please reply to this, and I will find them for you!
Good luck, and I am sure you will do awesome. :slight_smile:

@mer377
Hi! I hope you applied successfully! We’ll be grateful if you want to tell us where you ended up going!

@“Elina M”
Hi Elina!! Good luck on your applications! I’m sure you’ll do fine! I actually ended up going to Texas Christian University since I got a full ride scholarship there, but I am very satisfied!
If you need any “last-minute” advice on where to apply:
1- Do not worry much about the overall ranking of the program, but rather pay attention to the program you’re interested in (pre med, pre law, engineering, etc).
2- Unless money isn’t a bog deal for you, go with the cheaper option especially if you will be attending professional schools later on (medical school, law school, graduate school, etc.)
Good luck, and please ask us more questions if you have, and keep us updated!

@asalsd Hi Asal
Congratulation for getting a full ride, I hope you will have a good experience at TCU.
Sadly I was rejected by all my choices

@asalsd Hopefully I got accepted to Stanford

@mer377 It’s okay, I’m sure you’ll get into a good college eventually! Maybe as I said before, apply to colleges that have the program you want rather than the exclusively famous ones. Good luck in your future endeavors :slight_smile:
