IRG: International Relations & Global Studies

I recently accepted my admission decision to the UT Austin Class of 2017 as an International Relations and Global Studies major!
I am very very excited for college to start up next semester; however, I have a few qualms. Does anyone know much about this major? It's new, so no one I've talked to really knows.
I know all of the requirements (Study Abroad and research requirement, and I'm planning on minoring in Latin American Studies and doing the IRG Study Track "Science, Technology and the Environment"), but I don't really know what IRG is, what it entails, how much time and effort I will have to put into it. Is it an easy major? Right now it seems pretty overwhelming, especially since I am planning on also doing pre-med.

Anything will help. Thanks in advance!

It says “additional foreign language courses”.
Foreign language classes at UT are usually GPA killers and take a lot of time, not good for premed.
I don’t know, of course, probably you are already bilingual or trilingual.

I got a 4 on the Spanish Language AP exam last year, so I get credit for that. As far as how many more credits I have to take, I don’t know. If I already know the language pretty well, would I be ok?

I can also take my native language, Korean, if need be

You need to talk to your advisor.

The Spanish sequence, I believe, is SPN 601D, 610D, 611D, so you’ll most likely need to take 611D.

As for Korean, you can test out if you register for SAT II Korean (you can usually take it only once a year, probably next fall) and write UT supplemental essay

Somebody told here that Korean was one of the easier foreign language classes at UT. Spanish is a LOT OF WORK.
