Iron Bowl

Test are prohibited on “Dead Week” for an academic reason, though, not because people want to go on holiday early.

I like m2ck’s idea. I would like to rather have all of Thanksgiving week off and no Fall Break than the current system. Another idea could be to shift the academic calendar one week back so classes end the Friday before Thanksgiving and the week after is the exam period.

Or, maybe they could go all out and shift the semester two weeks back and have the semester end the week before Thanksgiving. Shift summer back accordingly and move the summer interim term to December.

Anyway, sorry for this extensive tangent in OT-land.

Okay. Back to the Iron Bowl. So Bama and Auburn alternate venues. It’s usually on Saturday after Thanksgiving, but is on Friday this year because of TV. Upperclassmen MAY be able to get tickets to Iron Bowl if it’s at Auburn if they have enough credits and good enough grades. What about just regular away games, like Miss State or other “driving distance” games? Can any upperclassmen get away tickets for those, or is there a pecking order based on GPA/credits for conference versus nonconference games?

Geez, I feel like I need a PhD to understand all this football stuff!

Yes, opportunities to purchase tickets to away games are a function of status by earned hours. The requisite hours to have an opportunity to purchase tickets is based on how many tickets are given to UA by the other school and how in-demand the tickets are. For example, to even have the opportunity to purchase a ticket to the game at LSU, you needed 115 earned hours (AP, dual credit and transfer hours don’t count), and it’s not even guaranteed you’d be able to get tickets. By contrast, you only need 67 earned hours to have the opportunity to buy tickets to the game at Duke.

I don’t believe GPA or honors status is taken into account, other than you can’t be on academic probation/suspension.

But ALL upperclassmen get to buy a package which consists of ALL home games, right? And, can you just buy a partial home game package if you’re an upperclassman, or do you have to donate/transfer the ones you don’t use to avoid penalties?

All away game tickets are distributed based on credit hours earned at UA, for those who sign up for each of those games. Of course demand for some games is greater than for others so even a sophomore may have a chance of getting certain away game tickets. As far as I know, GPA doesn’t factor into the equation.

Yes, all upperclassman have the **opportunity/B to purchase a full season home ticket package.

Occasionally, there will be extra tickets made available for certain away games. For example, on the past two Mondays, I’ve gotten e-mails from UA saying that I could buy tickets for the Duke and Arkansas games because there were “scattered single” seats available. However, for away games such as LSU, I highly doubt there would be many, if any extra tickets made available. It is my understanding that freshmen do not get these away game ticket e-mails.

The Iron Bowl is at the end of a two year cycle (2009, 2010) to be played on the day after Thanksgiving as a result of a television contract with the SEC. It is unclear when the game will be played in 2011, but Auburn will be the home team. Personally, I wish the game were played on another weekend as it is difficult for out-of-state students to experience the event.
