irs data retrieval question

Hello,

I thought that the data retrieval tool was available today. I logged onto FAFSA and I don't see the tool. Would there be a reason why it isn't available yet? Is there some connection between the IRS and FAFSA that only allows it to show when the IRS return is available. My return was processed on the 28th and I know that the website was saying 7 - 14 days.

Thanks.

It’s the government, they don’t do things on time.

Have you checked the IRS/efiling website to verify that IRS has your return, etc?

I’d wait at least another week, if not two before stressing about it, and even then, you generally don’t need to do the data retrieval until April. Schools are understanding and use your “estimates” to determine your award.

I was able to use the Data Retrieval Tool this morning, so it is up and running. Just wait a couple of days and try again. Now I am truly done with this process for at least another month or so!

Thanks! I, like you, would love to be finished with the process! :0 Then we will just have to wait for the idoc request…

IRS accepted my return on Jan 30. Today I was able to do IRS data retrieval on FAFSA website. It was very easy and took me 5 min. When you log in to FAFSA to make correction, change your tax return status to “Already filed” and you will see IRS retrieval tool.

It worked for me today! One more to cross off the list! :)

Too bad I keep adding more things to the end of my list!

I completed the IRS data retrieval tool this morning. My tax return was processed by the IRS on Feb. 1.

quick question. Once taxes are filed do we need to wait 1-2 weeks for the irs retrieval tool to work???

Thanks in advance!

From the posts here it looks like it’s only taking a few business days from the time that you e-file until the time that the IRS Data Retrieval option is available.

Hard to believe, but it looks like things have gotten better, relative to last year! Best bet is to just try it and see. My return was accepted Jan 31 and I was able to use Data Retrieval today.

I’m still not able to retrieve my return. My return was accepted 1/25. I do owe and haven’t paid yet. Searching past threads, it looks like people with refunds could retrieve it before those who owed. It also seemed like you had to pay your taxes before you could retrieve it. I wonder if that’s going to happen this year.

Thanks LizzieT :)
