I’m an incoming freshman signed up for 13 credits: intro to Chem, intro to biology lab, linguistics, first year writing, and a mini course. I was originally signed up for 16, but I had to drop a class because it didn’t fit well into my schedule. Do you think 13 is too little for a first semester freshman? I’m coming in with 11 credits.
I think it is fine, and may give you time to adjust. Don’t waste the extra time. My daughter had 17.5 her first semester and I think it was too much (assigned by her major/advisor).
@twoinanddone Thanks. There was another thread about it and a lot of people said it was too little and to add more, but I think I’d like some time to adjust to college and I also have a job for the first time in my life and feel like my first semester should be devoted to me figuring out how to do college things.
As long as you’ll be able to graduate in four years (or whatever amount of time you’re planning), it’s fine.
That 11 credit safety net is a great thing! You should be fine and your plan to give yourself some breathing room the first semester sounds very sensible
Just check if any of you have any scholarship that requires number of hours for academic progress. You don’t want to get stuck next semester needing 17 hours to meet the 30 hour mark. D had one that would not let her use AP credits to do it if that’s where your extra credits are from
You need to take on average 15 credits per semester to graduate in 4 years. Talk/email with your adviser and see if they can help you figure out if you should add another class or keep 13. You need 12 to remain a full time student.
If something happens and you need to drop a class you no longer have a buffer with only 13 credits.
