Wow, all of you have scores in the 1500s. Congrats... I feel bad; my SAT score is a mere 1400 and I'm RD'ing it. (Sigh) Is there even any chance?? I have a high GPA (rank 1 of 159) and many EC's with leadership positions. I think my essay is okay beause it's unique in that most people our age haven't been in such a position before. Im awaiting my SAT II results (just took it). Is my SAT I score really bad for RD? The only reason I didnt do ED is because I dont like the idea of a binding agreement to attend the university.

Please reply: I go to a small school and guidance does not help!!!! I consider this website guidance!!

I think you stand a decent chance, but the adcoms still want to see a sign of your efforts, and the 1400 just requires you to provide alternate evidence that you are truly pton worthy. The rank and gpa definetely help, but because you have a lower-than-avg sat score for pton, they want to see it balanced by another unique and greater-than-avg aspect.

Since you are applying RD you have time to retake. Why not give it another try?
Unless you've already taken it numerous times, then they'll just think you're not a good standardized test taker and that won't be a horrible thing.

Then you've shown that you can increase a lot. Maybe after another try you'll get 1500+ =) I don't think it's uncommon to take it three times anyway.

i called the assitant director of admissions today. and she said that 1400 - 1500 are good scores. and they look at ur sat score in context with your app. a 1550 will not help your chance that much, since its just one number...

hey, 1400 is a fine score if eveything else is above that on the "scale". the main reason why more ppl with 1550 get is is not b/c they got 1550, it is b.c their other parts of the app reflect that 1550. thats why ppl with 1200 dont often get into pton. maybe their other parts of the app also reflect a mediocre student. not an ousttanding one. no one is rejected b/.c they had 1400.... sat score is only used relavtive to your app, so they get a better picture of who are you, or a more consistenct picture shall i say. so dont worry about it if you think your other aspects are above that 1400 range! hope that helps!

1400 won't keep you out: think of it as getting your foot in the door. You just have to push the door open. Your other aspects (extracurriculars, teacher recommendations, essays, level of passion etc.) will be the things that make the difference. Good Luck! And don't get so down, CCfidentialers have a reputation for being quite the competitive group.

I agree that is a good analogy....I did better SAT Math (720), Verbal 680...Does anyone know if the AP scores sent to pton can be on the high school official transcript (sealed) or does it have to be sent from the collegeboard?? Thanks for all of your help!!!!!!! you guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI GUYS. i'M BACK AGAIN!!!!
I just got my SAT II scores back (disappointing):
Here they are:
Writing: 610 (ouch-extremely disappointed :(- I think I wanna take it over in Dec, but I never registered. What do you guys think I should do?)
Math IC: 730
Math IIC: 690 (OUCH)
Physics (from june): 700
sat I : 1400......

How do you think my chances are now with these stats?? Please me honest. Should I apply? How are my chances at Brown, Cornell, and Columbia also? If I put undecided, will it help me? I'm desperate for advice...please help me!!!! Muchas gracias (and believe me I MEAN IT in advance!!!

You can try for standby but that is difficult with writing I think?

I'll be honest, your scores are a bit low, but I don't know enough about the rest of your application to say much else. They don't hurt you so much as to guarantee a defer/reject but you better have good grades, ec's, essays, etc.
