is 2230 enough to get into ivies?

Hi, everyone. I was not sure if I should a different thread, but anyway I got 2230 in the march sat. But is it enough to get into, for instance, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, etc.? Someone in this forum once said that scores above or equal to 2250 are grouped together. But how about 2230? Do you think I should retake sat to get into the 2250 or up group?

Thanks in advance!

Whoever told you that was making an unwise generalization, to say the least. In Ivy League admissions, SAT scores comprise only a small part of the application and pale in comparison to the rest of your ranscript. Ad coms know that a single question wrong on math, for example, can lower your score 40 pts, so they will not make such a big deal out of a 20 pt “discrepancy” as long as the rest of your app is up to par. Furthermore, many colleges discount the writing section, claiming that there is not enough data to use it in admissions.

No. Test scores alone aren’t enough. You’ll also need grades, recs, ECs, essays, and a bit of luck.

thank you, everyone, for your reply.

tokenadult, thank for your link. The thread is very informative!

i got into Columbia with a 2130

The exact middle range at Harvard’s and Yale’s classes (those who have the highest average SAT scores) is 2230. So you should be fine. But if you get higher you are more rare and therefore increase your chances.

does a 2230 and having a URM status make one “ashooing” for these colleges?? just wanting opinions cause that’s me in a nutshell (+EC’s, good recs, etc.)

thanks!

Not necessarily lemons, but it shows that despite URMs generally having lower SATs, you’ve managed to get into the top 1% of scorers. It definitely helps, but at these colleges, the odds are pretty much stacked against anyone.

The usual spelling would be “a shoo-in” (a person who would be waved in the door without his qualifications being checked, the origin of the term).

goshh that sucks about the writing because it is the only section that i got an 800 on. math was 740 cr was 750. i don’t get why some colleges don’t see the writing score as legit, as clearly, if you look at the stats from collegeboard, way less people get 800 on writing than cr or math.

lol thanks tokenadult

i don’t think i’ve ever seen “a shoo-in” spelled out… i kinda just think of it as slang :)
