Is 2300 enough?

I don’t generally advocate taking the SAT multiple times, but in this case I am inclined to agree with Hunt. I would also be concerned about the 750 on the SAT II Math, if you were going into a mathematical or math-dependent field (physics, math, engineering). Such a high fraction of the SAT II Math II test-takers score 800 that 750 is not particularly high, percentage wise.

The people who say that the scores are high enough for top schools are right, in the sense that 2300 is plenty high. You could easily be admitted everywhere, without a retake. Also, some schools (e.g., Stanford) might question the retake–does it indicate a perfectionist streak?

If you were going into history or English, I’d say that you should stop, for sure.

On the other hand, while biology has not traditionally been considered a quantitative discipline, it is growing increasingly quantitative.

When you score 800 on the blue book tests, are you taking them in a realistic time frame? Also, are you taking them as part of a 3.5-4.5 hour marathon, or on their own? Perhaps you are making careless errors because you are worn down by the length of the test overall. Do you know whether your error rate increases as the test goes along? Can you localize your difficulties to a particular field: e.g., geometry, probability?

If you think that it’s largely an issue of the total testing time, then I would suggest packing and eating a snack during one of the breaks where that’s permitted. Also, move around the hallway during one of the breaks where that’s permitted. Schedule the retake at a time when you are not totally sleep deprived, and see how it works out.
