Well guys, I am a senior in high school. I took all of my math classes in my fresh/sophomore year. I am pretty good at math but I forgot a lot of the formulas in the 2 years that I didn't have math. Well the first time taking my ACT was December and I got a 24. 21E/23M/24R/27S. Now I am not applying to top colleges like most of you. I am applying to the University of Louisville where the requirement is a 19, but with the program I am applying for I needed a 21. I got a 24, so should I retake it just to try to improve it or should I be happy with a 24 since I have already gotten high enough for college?

If all you need is a 21, what would the point be in retaking? Nothing. Unless of course scholarship opportunities, than you would want to.

ok thanks. I will contact the school tomorrow to find out about some scholarships they offer. Thanks.

No need.

i'm almost positive the average ACT is 22, you are above average. so no, a 24 is not bad.

Since your score is more than sufficient for the university of your choice, it seems that retaking the test for a higher score would be purely masturbation (unless you think that you could do well enough to qualify for scholarships). If I were you, I would take pleasure in knowing that I could definitely raise my score by studying, and leave it at that.

By the way, a 24 is quite respectable.

just as a point of reference:an ACT of 24 = a combined SAT(2-score) of 1090-1120. and for the new SAT(3-score) it =1650/2400. this should give you some perspective, especially if you're applying to other schools as well.

the real question is could a 24 get you into a reputable school like Middlebury, Claremont Mckenna, or something.

Why do you care? That is not the real question. Don't be a jerk. The OP never asked that. He explicitly stated the University of Louisville.

what the? how am i being a jerk? My friend got that score and is applying to those schools.

Well your friend needs to be a bit more realistic, unless he is exemplary in every other category, in which case it would still be iffy, but possible nonetheless.

donjuan, you we suggesting you know the "real question" better than the person who started the thread, and that schools like Middlebury & Claremont Mckenna set the bar for "reputable".

Guys, don't let an argument hijack the thread.

shrinkrap, who cares? i just wanted my question answered. The thread's title is "is 24 a bad score," so i used the opportunity to ask a similar question.
