Is 24 too old for dorms?

I'm applying to a few universities to transfer into, which have dorms. My old university wasn't too far from home. I'm planning on leaving due to my current university giving me personal/financial issues.

Would I fit in, or would I be seen as weird/creepy etc? Many people mistake me for a teen because of my appearance (short & baby-faced), so I'm not worried about looking too old. I'm not a party-person or drinker either, so would the environment not be best for me?

This wouldn't be my first time living in the dorm either; I experienced the dorm life when i was 17 for a year before taking time off of school to help my family. It wasn't a bad experience, but since I was younger then I was concerned if it would be any different. Would living in the dorms be an okay idea? Thank you very much for your help.

If you’re doing it to save money, then it is probably fine.

I think you will be fine, especially since you say you don’t look too old.

Are you emotionally / mentally 24? I’m going to be 24 when I transfer and, just like you, I can still pass for 18-21. With that said there is absolutely no way I could do dorms because I love cooking my owns. With that said, I wouldn’t mind living with 19 yr olds, but still, cooking is very important to me. So in the end, it all depends on you and how you live your life.

I think you’ll be okay. Also, you should see if your new school has any dorms (or apartment dorms) aimed at transfers/upper div students… older is considered more normal there, and they’d probably be more similar to you (upper level classes, similar goals, have been in school for a few years).

Some schools have a variety of housing options for older students so that is something you may want to look into.

Also if you want to live off campus you could what options there are that way.

I’d go with an off campus place or a university owned apartment, if possible.

As mentioned above, a lot of schools have transfer housing which are generally occupied by older students.

I’m 27 and transferring next year. I’m not gonna do the dorm thing. I’d feel too out of place with a bunch of kids that were fresh out of high school. I’m planning on getting an apartment. Realistically, you can usually find an apartment for the same price, if not cheaper than a dorm.
